I know it's a minimal trade and it doesn't really matter but what's the point of Dallas doing that trade? They can just sign a Mackey type defenseman for the AHL in free agency and keep the 4th round pick

I get zary had a pretty pedestrian rookie season in the ahl but at that price point it makes way more sense just to stick with him
