Well he gets more than a 7th lol.

Given the work here, try this on for size:

Kerfoot to Calgary for Tanev ($1 million retained) by the Flames, funneled through Ottawa who retains 50% of the remainder.

Flames get Kerfoot, on an expiring deal (same cost as Tanev for the year), which gives them not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 lines that can put the puck in the net. Scorr8ng by committee will be the Flames M.O. this season, and a guy like Kerfoot fits Sutter's system beautifully. I shall throw in a 4th rounder for nominal retention.

The Weegar acquisition makes this more than possible.

Ottawa gets Holl and Abruzzese for retention. Sens need a top 4RD - Holl can do that. Abruzzese (we are talking 2 years of retention here folks), gives the Sens a legit bottom 6 call up for this season, and a player that just might compete for a spot.

Leafs get Tanev at $1.75 million for two years, which fills a top 4 pairing roll beyind Holl, but adds a grit factor that frankly, Brodie, Holl or Liligren don't have.

There is my outside the box thinking.

Pretty sure I’ve seen you try to trade Barrie and Foeggle for decent returns in previous posts. They are literally dog crap compared to Kerfoot so…🤐. Something about living in a glass house

Tanev/Weegar have more value than Kerfoot. While Kerfoot is worth a lot more than a 7th, he aint worth one of those guys unless leafs tack on some picks/prospects to balance it out.

Ottawa doesn't want/need Holl. If they get a RHD, it has to be a significant upgrade on Hamonic and Zaitsev

I would argue Holl is just that. Dig into some advanced stats. The guy is really underrated.

    Tom Preissing in 2005-06 : 38 points, + 40

I don't think we can find advanced stats for that season but I'm sure these would look fantastic for him for that particular season

Holl is a NHL player but he's not an upgrade and not what the Sens need.

If he was as good as you claim, not every Leafs fan would try to dump him and his 2.0 salary all over the place

I say those are misinformed Leafs fans.

Here is the thing about Holl: he is a positional defenseman. He isn't going to hit bodies. Some of those Leafs fans move him because, frankly, the Leafs blueline needs a physical.presence beyond Muzzin. Moving Liligren or Sandin to accomplish this is lunacy; and moving Brodie right now would be counter productive (best partner Reilly has had since Ron Hainsey). All this leaves Holl.

So, it's not that we are all hot and horny to move Holl; he isn't what the Leafs blueline needs right now.

Throwing out Tom Preissing (who actually wasn't bad, just the Sens made the mistake of signing the guy after a career year in LA) is impressive, but Holl has a body of work that says:

    1) he can play top 4 minutes
    2) he can play them competently

Maybe he isn't waht the Sens need, but they need a RD that can play top 4..... so unless Chris Tanev is on the table (a guy I would target with 2 years left) , and you want to spent an additional $2.5 million because he can hit people, have at it.

The point about Preissing is that it's easier to have good advanced stats on a great team... I should have found a more recent example but that's all I had at that moment, Holl is not really a player I want to debate for long

To contend, Sens need some experience but also a guy like Parayko/Carlo, someone who can play with Chabot. Holl is not that level

I think you have Chabot's Methot with Zub. You are looking for a 2nd pairing guy.

Carlo will cost the Sens dearly, so let's get that out if the way. Parayko could be an intersting fit.

But, I would go shopping in LA. Walker or Roy are there. Durzi takes one of those spits, while Edler fills out the bottom pairing with Björnföt sitting in the weeds.

If you are thinking in more physical terms, that is where I would be headed.

How much could Carlo cost? I mean he's a defensive D-man, pretty much like Methot was. Sens traded Foligno to get Carlo. But if I am Boston I'm not trading Carlo now so he's probably just not available

Would Parayko be available? Because I feel that's the guy Chabot would need. He has a lot of term left but I would still take the risk

From LA, I would interested in Roy, not Walker.

But still so many options and it could just end up being Chabot-Zub + Sanderson + JBD. I know it's rookie pairing but these guys know each others well and are some pretty impressive defensive smarts. Then have a more offensive 3rd pairing with Brannstrom and Holden (until Thomson is ready)

But anyway, Hamonic will be a stop gap this season

It seems Hamonic is the guy, with the thinking Thomson and Bernard-Docker will be ready for prime time. But given Dorion's offseason for the ages, upgrading that 2nd pairing RD should be something to be considered. It would just round out that blueline, and at that point, we start talking about the Sens maybe making the playoffs, not just being in the mix.

Agree, Carlo is probably off limits, unless you mention Sanderson..... and that is just silly.

Parayko I think will cost either Thomson or Bernard-Docker and a 1st. At least that would be a framework. But, the Blues look good going into the year, and have no reason to make the move.

Roy would be perfect, and a 2nd may get that done.

Another really good option maybe Marc Savard, depnding how the Habs blueline fares; but could see him available for the right price. The contract is good too. Zaitsev with retention and a forward prospect or pick? 🤔🤔🤔

I am in love with the Sens D depth. There is a logjam, but one that gets cleared up with attrition.
