Leadership and on ice performance are two different thing. MTL are rebuilding, they don't have to be good. But if you wanna swap Matheson vs Girard so Girard could mentor the youngster I'm fine with that. If you don't want to take him, then he'll be mentoring the youngsters

not only can he play PP/PK, speak French, and make everyone around him better, you get him for 5 more years on a sweet deal. He's loved in Colorado, but he needs the minutes on a team that can really use his service. I would be sad to see him go, but it would be the right move. A win for 31 other teams

Vegas has -36 dollars rn. gonna lose someone

No they don't. Weber is LTIRetired, they have space to do what they need to do.

Matheson is a good guy to mentor the youth. I think he would be Colorado's 8th defenseman. Might as well bring in Jack Johnson

You cannot be this unaware of other NHL teams, can you? Matheson has better offensive numbers than Girard 5v5 over the last 3 seasons and isn't actually worse defensively.

Girard needs the minutes to contribute

Cool, doesn't mean he deserves those minutes. If Montreal wanted an offense first D-man who looked good with Colorado, Barrie is bigger, cheaper (both in a trade and contract wise) and plays RD, which is where Montreal would actually need help. But Montreal probably isn't looking for an offense first D-man.

If he's so good, keep him, but don't expect rebuilding teams to pay through the nose for him.

IDK if you guys are selling or trying to contend this season? keeping Dvorak for face-offs wouldn't make much sense for Bedard.

Guhle alone is more valuable than Girard and if HABS intend to trade Dvorak it will be at the TDL where his value is the highest for a team needing a center. HABS will get a 1st rd pick a 3rd rd pick and a prospect for Dvorak

Matheson

--Would be a cool poll around the NHL. Who would you rather have? Matheson or Girard

--Tyson Barrie needs to be carried by offensive heavy teams to score now. His defensive numbers are as good as Alex Nylandr playing defense

He had better defensive numbers than Girard last season.

Give Girard Barries minutes. Toews and Makar clock at 28 mins each game.

Girard played more minutes than Barrie. A lot more.

Girard is an decent if undersized offensive oriented 2nd pair D-man. That's worth something, but not worth as much as some seem to think,

So Barrie > Girard in your eyes? I mean Girard’s skating alone is supreme at creating scoring chances.

No. But Barrie makes more sense for Montreal than Girard, especially if Girard costs anything close to Dvorak+ Guhle.

Dvorak VS Girard - But I don't see MTL going to trade Ghule in any deal right now.

Avs may get a 1st pick _(2024 or 2025) or get one of Ylonen, Mysak and Norlinder with a 2nd round draft pick for 2023 or 2024. Mtl's top level are still looking into the potential of Ghule for now and would only trade for a very top level player. 1st line forward or Dman. Sergachev still hurts when they see him play.

I know no one Matheson but we already have Matheson and Edmundson played on the top 4 so no room for Girard. Harris/Guhle will play on the 3rd pairing so if Eddy or Matheson arent going the other way, then we dont want Girard

girard is much better. easy solution is play matheson or edmundson on the 3rd pair. girard can play rd if needed. guhle can play avs 3rd pair next season. it should all work

That "someone" was named Max Paccioretty.

With Shea Weber's LTIR and the likelihood of Patrick never playing again, Vegas has somewhere around $7.5m to sign the three RFA with Roy being the top priority. He will probably command somewhere in the $3m-$4m range, which would mean the VGK would have to miss out on one of the other two (probably Kolesar). In your scenario he gets traded to the Avs and signs a $2m AAV contract. If he was willing to sign for $2m AAV the deal with Vegas would have already been done.

Yeah no chance you land Guhle with Girard as the centerpiece
We don’t care about Girard, some Habs fans wouldn’t even do Dvorak for Girard straight up lol that’s says a lot. (I would do Dvorak vs Girard straight up and play Girard on his off side tho)

Girard for Dvorak straight up being a no isn't a great look for Habs fans tbh

I'd do Girard vs Dvorak straight up. We would certainly suck at feaceoffs (hence my post earlier in that thread), but for this opportunity, it would certainly benefit both teams.

A 2024-2025 D squad looking like Girard/XXX, Guhle/Barron and Harris/Mailloux is appealing af! We'd then need to trade picks and assets to land a Top 4 RD from a selling team.

Matheson ?

You're right, I forgot about him! So we could even afford to trade him, Savard and/or one of the young guys to get a Top 4 RD to play with Girard.
