Blow it up

Created by: Lshipley22
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2022
Published: Aug. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The jets aren’t winning a cup with this core, they have a solid prospect pool already and good roster players they can trade for even more assets. I think blowing it up is the smartest move for the jets here especially with bedard as the prize for a tank next year. This is just a stab at what a optimistic rebuild could look like in the coming years

Trades
1.
WPG
  1. 2023 4th round pick (OTT)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (WSH)
OTT
  1. Dillon, Brenden
Additional Details:
This trade could be to anyone I just used OTT, send Dillon for a couple mid picks anywhere (could be from 2nd to 5th round)
2.
WPG
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (DAL)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Schmidt, Nate
Additional Details:
Again with Schmidt the team/ picks don’t overly matter, just dump him for some mid picks similar to Dillon.
3.
WPG
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony
Additional Details:
Isles have the cap, wheeler still produces points well but struggles on defence, he is a fine replacement for beau now and his contract is done in two years, throw in 2 prospects with high upside and a second and I feel like this trade works.
4.
WPG
  1. Chromiak, Martin
  2. Grans, Helge
  3. Kaliyev, Arthur
  4. 2023 3rd round pick (LAK)
  5. 2024 1st round pick (LAK)
LAK
  1. Hellebuyck, Connor
Additional Details:
Top 5G in the league and former vezina winner in the prime of his career is going to get a big haul, with LA making playoffs and only improving I think they would go in on a guy like helle. With one of the deepest prospect pools in the league they can afford to give up assets for him too.
5.
WPG
  1. Firkus, Jagger [Reserve List]
  2. Vyazovoi, Semyon [Reserve List]
  3. Wennberg, Alexander
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (TOR)
SEA
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc
Additional Details:
PLD isn’t staying in WPG, SEA lacks centre depth heavily and desperately needs a 1C, with the winger depth and defence they have this turns them into a playoff team.
6.
WPG
  1. Foligno, Nick
  2. Gallagher, Ty [Reserve List]
  3. Lysell, Fabian
  4. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Scheifele, Mark ($3,062,500 retained)
Additional Details:
Assuming Boston re sign Bergeron the B’s are going to want to make one more run at the cup with this core, their centre depth is obviously lacking and they’d want to improve here. With about 5M in cap space and berry yet to sign jets would retain on scheifele and swap another contract. Take folignos 4M and let him be a mentor for the young bucks

That seems like a lot for a year of Hellebuyck and light for PLD

The Isles absolutely do not have cap. They have Dobson, Romanov and Bellows are RFA's who would take up most of the remaining cap and are already trying to offload cap to sign Kadri.

Isles decline.

Well, Boston and the Isles definitely say no.

Would it be a year of Helle though?

Of course I can't speak for him, but you have a great young team on the rise, in L.A who is really only a Vezina caliber goalie away from being a consistent contender. I would imagine in this scenario he would re-sign in L.A. The only question is what they would do with Quick and Peterson. One of them would have to go; presumably Peterson, but he has struggled to live up to his contract.

This Jets fan likes all of these trades, in a scenario where Chevy decides to blow it up, but I don't see Seattle as a fit for PLD. They are in a building phase and have Beniers and Wright as the 1C and 2C they are going to develop in those roles. If anything they would go after some young wingers to play with those two.

Good luck dumping anybody for anything right now. Stars don’t have the cap after RFAs. Most teams don’t. And the teams that do will charge accordingly for taking cap from anybody

(1) Hellebuyck's cap hit means that Petersen and one other roster player have to go back the other way.

(2) With Quick and Petersen, we're pretty happy with our goaltending situation right now. We might look at Hellebuyck again when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

Unlinkey Winnipeg would consider the Islander, LA, Boston or Seattle trades.

There's no reason for Winnipeg to sell low on so many deals if they are going to blow it up. I imagine they'd opt for better picks/prospects as opposed to lowering their return by taking back lower end roster players/prospects in addition to lower picks.

Goalies are too inconsistent and unpredictable to merit that large of a return. I wouldn't even give up a haul like that for Shesterkin or Vasilevskiy.

Ottawa declines. We have zero need for a LHD, but we'd be happy to talk about Demelo, or even Bauer.

Just an FYI, Seattle isn't really lacking in center depth. They have Beniers and Wright who each have a chance to develop into top line centers in the near future, not to mention Gourde, Wennberg, McCann, Geekie, and Donato as veterans who are all capable of playing center.
