Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2022
Published: Aug. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic

3 way between MTL / CHI / NYR

All of these would be major moves just before season starts. Some would be to move Cap Space between teams; other would be to settle some trades.

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Kane, Patrick
Additional Details:
Given Kane's reluctance to stay inside a rebuild.. I'd see if they would accept some Cap in Byron (Which could be put on the LITR if needed to stay on the IR if they need to stay above Cap compliance)..
CHI
  1. Byron, Paul
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
  4. 2024 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Sending Byron to help with cap compliance OR LITR; plus Harris whO's done good and has potential for the rebuild; Include 1st (24) and 2nd (23) round picks.
2.
MTL
  1. Lafrenière, Alexis
  2. Reaves, Ryan
Additional Details:
Lafrenière vs Kane/Ylonen/Tuch/Dobes/1st pick
Reaves to give an extra 1.75M$ of cap space.
NYR
  1. Dobes, Jakub [Reserve List]
  2. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
  3. Tuch, Luke [Reserve List]
  4. Ylönen, Jesse
  5. 2023 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
1st pick would be protected; MTL keeps the best of the two.
Retain 5.25M$ from Kane (and Kane extend with NYR);
Provide lots of good prospects.

NYR Will still need to move some cap space
3.
MTL
  1. Benoit, Simon
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Benoit is undrafted; has given good but not great numbers.
ANA
  1. Hoffman, Mike
  2. 2023 5th round pick (MTL)
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
ANA need a few LW to help with scoring. Hoffman can do that and only has 2yrs left on the contract which will help develop prospects in the AHL for those years.
4.
MTL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
3rd pick 2024 for Armia;
Drouin and Reaves are there to get some younger players back into development AHL mode; Drouin is also there to ensure min cap floor. Put him on the IR and done.

Why would Calgary ever want Jake Allen?? My god.

And Calgary just signed Zadorov!

Calgary has enough cap space to sign AM and OK.

Calgary doesn't need a goalie. They have Vladar and you don't trade someone you just signed. Flames easily decline

Ducks do not need Hoffman, and a 2nd and a 4th arent even enough to take on his contract/locker room problems

We already have too many LWs as is

Ducks easily decline, want us to take a cap dump give us MTLs unprotected 2023 first or leave us alone

That 2023 first better be top 10 protected. I feel like that 3way trade is fair, would be pretty dope for MTL

Putting the "trade" aside which is not fair for all teams. Why would the Habs want to trade away a chance at 2 elite centers and an elite RW for a LW when they just got Slafkovsky?

The 3 way trade is laughable. HABS will never get rid of the possible #1 pick for AL. It could be a generational pick Bedard or Michkov and I would rather have them that AL.

That 3-way trade is heavily in MTL's favor and the main guy is coming from CHI, very unrealistic. MTL doesn't even have cap space like CHI or their wealth, so it doesn't make any sense for CHI not to retain on Kane, take Byron off MTL, and get the shorter end of the stick on the benefit of their star player getting traded. He did say the 1st is protected, so Chi isn't even potentially benefiting off that.

Heard. Reverted Calgary and Anaheim trades. Still better for Habs in the long run.

Bring in Lafrenière or take a chance on a prospect, as good as they are?? They still get one of two.

Mtl has plenty of cash… and that first can easily be another top 10 pick. While FLA got a start player, they still lost their star player and a top 2 defensman which could hurt them lots this year.

Mtl only has plenty of cash if Price goes on LTIR, but CHI has a whole lot more. That pick could be top 10 but that doesn't change the fact that MTL got the Lion's share of the deal on Chi's player. Lafreniere was a first overall pick, he could be just as good or better than guys that will go 4-10 in the 2024 draft and a late first guy in next draft could be just as good as well. They might as well get the sure thing. Also, your stipulation is giving MTL the better pick.
