We are not going anywhere another look at deadline possibilities

Created by: Grapevine
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2022
Published: Aug. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chevy might have sat still this summer but the reality of how mediocre this team is will hit home this season. We need to look for possible bidders on our two centres going into the deadline. A team will still pay to get Dubois at the deadline knowing they also can sign him one more time to a qualifying offer. Scheifele can fetch a big return at the deadline to the right team.

Trades

  1. Korpisalo, Joonas
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CBJ)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (CBJ)
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (CBJ)
CBJ
  1. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
This gives them a 1C. I’m assuming they’ll be fighting for a playoff spot and this would put them in
2.
WPG
  1. Vilardi, Gabriel
  2. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
This would be assuming they’re in a playoff spot again and Vilardi doesn’t have a breakout year. With Quick’s contract coming off the books next summer they can sign Dubois for a year. Maybe he loves it out there and decides to stay long term. If not at least they have him through the end of 2024
LAK
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc ($3,000,000 retained)

Center is the last position that LA needs to address.

Not for that price. No thanks from LA.

If jets lottery bound, might as well deal Schmidt if he waives, Dillon, and possibly demelo, depending on young rhd in return. Got to see where some of the moose are at. Would look at even selling ehlers and Connor if the right package is offered, maybe pionk, and helly too. Would love multiple first rounders in 23 draft and possibly similar in 24 and 25. Win the cup or win the lottery, don’t settle for anything in between lol

Scheifele wouldn't be welcome or Laine will probably want out.

Also, CBJ has no cap, they do have two young centers though that they can hope to be their 1 and 2C in Kent Johnson and Cole Sillinger, might as well play them. No need to rush and try to force themselves into competition.

MTL needs a 2C, Arz could use a top C. Other than that most teams are set. There is also Bos and CGY.

Talented players don’t grow on trees. Everyone needs to be a grown up and figure it out. If you are going to act like a baby because someone was mean to you then you’re never winning anything. I’d like to hope Laine has grown up by this point.

Most teams are set because it’s August. No one is injured yet

Scheifele and Wheeler were or are the ones who need to grow up in that regard, they were/are toxic and they are supposed to be leaders on the team.

That's fair, there are probably other teams that could use them but CBJ can't really take on either contract and shouldn't. Better off playing the young guys. If they need help in the C position, a one year rental would be the way probably, although with Nyquist off the books and the ask, maybe they could make Scheifele work from a cap perspective (not sure who they need to sign next year).

Kings don't have the cap space for PLD, even at 50% retention.

They were leaders on this team at that time. The team was winning then. Now it’s not. That story was massively blown out of proportion by the media. No shocker there

So I looked at it from your side and agree it’s tough. You have to trade one of the goalies at some point so I’d assume Korpisalo is the odd man out. Then you’d have to move another contract, either Nyquist which is less than ideal or Kuraly who has a M-NTC. Maybe next summer a trade for a centre works better for you.

It certainly would next summer. It also certainly would not be Schiefele. Toxic players with no character are not going to be welcome in what has been widely reported to be a very positive locker room atmosphere. Perhaps if he were a better leader then the Jets could have won something during his tenure with the team. The Jackets will be just fine without him.

Could be blown out of proportion, or perhaps it is what was reported and the result was them not being able to return to that form they were at when they had Byfuglien. Their fall of course had to do with their weekend d line over the years but they weren't able to come together as a team. It wasn't too long ago that Hellebuyck thought they were on the verge of a dynasty and that they were just missing a few pieces.

We were never on the verge of anything. It was all smoke and mirrors. It’s been that way here forever

“Toxic player”? I’d love to see the proof for that aside from a media report which is I’m sure mostly unsubstantiated or flat out distortions as most media is.

Thing is CBJ has at least 3 young centers with a lot of upside. So even the following season wouldn't make too much sense. Only reason I could think of them doing it was if CBJ was all of a sudden a top 5 team in the east but needed help in the faceoff circle or the center position if one of those guys aren't ready.

Personally, I thought he was just delusional but if he truly felt that way, that must mean he had confidence in their group, he mentioned how each year they were having guys break out and step up. I wonder though if he still feels that way now, or if he will feel that way in 2 years.

Guess the Jets will be just fine re-signing him and keeping him around if he's so great then. Why would they want to lose a character 1C who can provide so much to them?

Who are the 3 centres? Is Johnson a centre or a LW? I’m not sure if that’s settled. Sillinger is going to be a really good one. Jack looks like he is figuring it out there and I’m happy for the kid but he’s a 2C at best.

One very good season pulled a lot of wool over the eyes of this fanbase and that organization. In reality this team has been heading downhill ever since Vegas took us out.

Because he’s 29 and wants to win. It’s not going to happen here
