I had no idea the U18s and the Hlinka Gretzky were two different tournaments, score!

I really hope we run Johnson-McTavish-Bedard and Othmann-Greig-Stankoven as our top 6. I’ll be disappointed if a guy like Foerster or Desnoyers ends up that high in the lineup. I’d also love to see a Cuylle-Ostapchuk-Gaucher 4th line just barge through opposing defenses but my main concern is the top 6.

Ideal lines:

Johnson-McTavish-Bedard
Othmann-Greig-Stankoven
Roy-Desnoyers-Dufour
Cuylle-Ostapchuk-Gaucher
Spares: Foerster, Kidney

I like this, except Desnoyers in the lineup. Guy gave me brain damage last time (for those 2 games), he reminded me too much of Comeau, shouldn’t be in the lineup.

Swap Foerster with Desnoyers and I’d agree

Surprised Savage made it over Nazar considering the last time Savage played he got suspended

SILENCE, NON-BELIEVER!!! smile

Like you said, Canada definitely has the advantage in net, but I think the USA has the best forward group (in terms of depth) and the best D core in the tournament (and don't forget-no Wright, no Perfetti, no Neighbours, no Power, no Guhle, and many others for Canada). If Mbereko can post a .910 SV% in net, I think the USA has a real shot at gold.

Why aren't any of those big names you mentioned playing?

In all seriousness though, I feel bad for the current crop of Canadian Juniors-to be clear, NOT for Hockey Canada, not in the slightest, but for these current juniors. They're getting a chance to live a dream, but they're in a nightmarish situation (and quite possibly playing for a nightmarish organization).

They’re the new age USA gumnastics

Wright, Perfetti, Neighbours and Power all declined to play (they're all trying to crack the opening night roster for the Kraken/Jets/Blues/Sabres), Guhle is injured.

A lot of players aren’t playing in the WJC due to preparing for NHL training camps or they don’t want to risk injury before their season starts

Simon Latkoczy is a name to remember. Elite vision and mobility. Has backstopped some really talented USHL teams, numbers don't tell the story. Could be someone to watch out for as an overaged draft choice next draft.

Czechia with a dominant 2nd period to take a 3-2 lead over Slovakia after 40 minutes. Czechs outshooting the Slovaks 36-14 and absolutely dominating in zone time.

So weird to see (practically) no fans in the arena whatsoever, and it's not because of protocol. They do expect the arena to be mostly full for the USA and Canada games though.

This was basically the only article I could find talking about it.

Wait until it comes to Halifax, the arena will be filled the entire time. That's what it's like when you live in a hockey city.

It's also a weekday in the middle of the summer when everyone is working.

Terrific opening game-Czechia beats Slovakia 5-4. Czechs led 4-2 with 6 1/2 minutes left in the 3rd, Slovakia scored twice in 3 minutes to even it up, but Gabriel Szturc scored the winner for Czechia with 1:50 to go in regulation.

It’s Czechia vs. Slovakia with no Slafkovsky or Nemec at noon on a Tuesday in Canada. The WJC is a huge deal in Canada, and every game will be sold out at its regular time (including Latvia vs. Austria or whatever) because Canadians love hockey, but this is in the middle of summer, nobody knew it was happening, it’s in the middle of the work day, there’s no big name prospects on those teams (like you’ve gotta be a draft nerd who wants to see Dvorsky or a CBJ/MTL fan going to see Jiricek or Mysak to have any motivation to show up), and nobody is taking time off to travel there like they would around the holidays. Plus everyone’s pissed off at Hockey Canada right now. I expect they’ll still sell out the Canada games, and maybe the USA games, but anybody else, good luck, especially for the weekday afternoon games.
