Ya that’s stupid. Like anyone with a job isn’t going to be able to just stop working by 4 pm to watch those games.

And guess who the ENTIRE support base is? People with jobs lmao. Not to mention kids are barely out of school by puck drop so it’s not even like they’re promoting a family thing (which would basically be stay-at-home parents + kids while the working parent stays at work because it’s August and not the holidays). Or, like seemingly everyone at my company, it’s August and they’re on vacation, and they’re certainly not spending their vacation in Edmonton lmao

Well it’s summer, so yes, kids are able to watch them, but ya, if you have a normal job, you’re not watching it.

Going to be the most forgetful WJC ever lol.

Ah right. I forgot kids are stupid losers who decide they need a “break” for “several months” and they need it “every year.” Get a job smh, deal with the resulting decline in your mental health like the rest of us, by drinking until you forget the pain 🙄

Shots are currently 48-7 USA.

48-7!!!

EDIT: Ach, I finally jinxed it too far. Germany ruins the shutout by scoring on the PP to make it 5-1.

USA clobbers Germany 5-1 in their first game of the WJC. Landon Slaggert, Luke Hughes, and Riley Duran had a goal and an assist each. USA dominated in every facet of the game-shots (finished 50-11), faceoffs, chances, zone time-everything. Other than a stupid penalty (playing without a helmet) by Berard that led to a Germany PP goal that spoiled the shutout for Kaiden Mbereko, the USA was absolutely terrific, albeit a bit raw and choppy at the start of the game. Up next: Switzerland on Thursday at 10 PM EST.

There’s always a goalie at a WJC that makes you think wow, how did he make his team not lose by 10+ while facing an amazing team

For me it was Coronato and Bordeleau, but it seemed like every single player was absolutely flying out there. The Americans are scary

Coronato, Hughes, Duran, Slaggert, Knies, and Bordeleau, just to name a few. USA was absolutely flying, dominating at will, shots finished at 50-11 in favor of the USA. It's a miracle the score was only 5-1.

Canada had a 14-0 win in the Hlinka last week against Switzerland. The problem with Junior tournaments is the US and Canada tend to be ahead f the development curve from these Central European countries Iike the Germans, the Swiss, and Austria.

Of course, as do the Swedes and the Finns.

I mean, are we expected to care about Czechia-Slovakia and Latvia-Finland, this tournament does nothing for most of the players lol, they still have a full season ahead of them, anything they “prove” they have to follow up on during the season ( instead of normally using the WJC to boost your stock midway through the season )

You really couldn’t get a thousand people to watch team USA? Poor marketing and poor scheduling. After scouts and family this is less people than the club next door.

Good for Raty turning it around. He was always intriguing and when he fell out of the first you knew it was a mistake. Great to see him turning heads. The kids going to be a player.

Next up is probably Lambert. Only time will tell if the fellow fin follows suit. But Raty wrongfully fell out of the first and now he’s showing off why the hype train used to be so big.

I like their 2nd line more than their 1st line and their 3rd pair more than their 2nd pair lol

Zanetti and Knak are the only relevant Swiss players. Wallstedt is gonna have to hard carry Sweden through this tournament

I thought Knak was too old by this point, I guess since guys who played in the PP'ed one are allowed to play now he can. Huge W for Switzerland there, they have a chance to beat Germany now
