fair must be describing something else in this ACGM because it’s certainly not describing the trade

i dunno about this one chief
once giroux's contract expires (assuming he retires), formenton's gonna be the missing piece in the top six.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Formenton - Stutzle - DeBrincat

(pinto wont play wing)

and pens also get control on a future top six winger for a while, and they give two expiring players

Stutzle could play wing.
They traded Brown for a 2nd round pick. Why wouldn’t they want an upgrade on defense for a guy that’s too good for 4th line duty but log jammed for top 9?
I’d assume Ottawa is looking at the now considering their recent trades and signings.

I'm with Zuki here for 2 reasons.

1. Assuming Formenton is innocent of SA, we'll need him to either replace Giroux fully or be trade bait for a 2nd line winger seeing as Pinto is a purebred center.
2. We have so many defensive prospects coming up in Lassi Thompson, Bernard-Docker, Sanderson and possibly Tomas Hamara in a few years as well, we don't need to trade for defense. If we're contending for a playoff spot come deadline time then maybe i can see it happening but otherwise nah.

Disagree, but feel free to explain how a middle 6 winger for a top 4 d & bottom 6 F isn’t fair. I’d assume judging by Ottawa’s recent trades and signings that they are looking to take that next step forward. Why wouldn’t they trade from a position of strength to upgrade a position of weakness?

Well Stutzle can play wing.
As for the 2nd point, most of them are right defensemen and Dumo wouldn’t block any of them since they aren’t ready for an nhl top 4 role.

You don’t trade young, controlled, established multi-dimensional NHLers for 30yo rentals when you’re hoping to take your first step out of a rebuild. Especially not when the guy you’re acquiring doesn’t help solidify an area of weakness. Between Chabot, Sanderson, Brannstrom, and Holden, a LD is the absolute last thing we need. And Zohorna has no value, we could get him or someone just like him on waivers if we really wanted to.

Except it does strengthen a weakness. Your left side is terrible. Just because you have a bunch of unproven or 6th/7th dmen on that side doesn’t make it a strength lol. I’m sure they didn’t sign Giroux and trade for DeBrincat to not make a serious run. Formenton is a middle 6 winger who has proven he is at least a 3rd liner. He has potential to be better but hasn’t proven it.
I mean the team traded a young goalie that they had a lot of control over for an older rental goalie to upgrade lol. So trading one of like 5 3rd liners/ 1 of 10 top 9 forwards for a veteran top 4 D…especially to pair with one of the young players on the right side wouldn’t exactly be out of the realm of possibility.

Really? They have Zub, Zaitsev, Hamonic, Thompson, JBD…not to mention Brannstrom can play the right side.

It’s fine not to know everything about the Sens, trust me, we don’t need a LD at all lol. Chabot is elite. Sanderson will immediately be a top 4 guy, and could have a Seider level impact as a rookie honestly, he was arguably the best prospect outside the NHL last year. Holden and Brannstrom are both more than capable 4/5 type guys. Our right side is Zub and nothing. Hamonic is a 6/7, Zaitsev is well below replacement level, and neither JBD nor Thomson has proven they’re NHL ready for sure (hopefully one of them cracks the 3rd pair, but it’s not pencilled in like Sanderson is). We need a RD, not a LD. And once again, why would we give up a young, controlled player for an aging rental? We could get a Dumo-esque player for like a 2nd at the TDL if we really wanted to.

Trollolol JBD and Thompson have to prove themselves even though they’ve at least played some games in the nhl already, but Sanderson is a for sure top 4 guy this season. Right. We will see about that lol

My man said our left side is terrible when we got Chabot who is elite, Sanderson who's going to become elite, and plenty of competent 3rd pairing options, and that the fix to that is Brian Dumolin 😂

Also just to comment on your "They didn't get Giroux amd DeBrincat so they wouldn't contend" comment, Giroux literally went out in the media and said they didn't aim to contend THIS season.

Trust me there's no rush throwing away one our of most versatile talents for a 30 year old rental that really doesn't fill a need however much you'd like to think so lol.

Only cause your left side is weak behind Chabot. Until Sanderson proves otherwise, he is just an unproven prospect.

Keywords: “going to become” meaning he isn’t there yet and since I’m sure you don’t have a crystal ball that you can’t prove 100% he will become elite.
Giroux is a terrible captain and teammate if he legit said that before the season started. But I’d agree with him if they don’t upgrade that defense.
