This is not how a cap dump trade works.

At this point we would have to add those picks in a Zucker deal, not get them in return.

Would you rather get beat up along the boards and lose those key battles or would you rather have experience and depth if someone goes down with injury which will happen.

No, we're not interested in taking Zucker off your hands and giving you EITHER a second OR a third for him. Try something more useful, like your giving us the New Jersey third and our giving you our 2023 fifth and 2024 seventh.

Brian Boyle lol

Why laugh at the guy who scored as many goals as Kap in 13 less games, almost 4 minutes less per game, with only 30% O-zone starts and none of which were ever with Geno? Not to mention that he was a big part of the 2nd best PK in the league before Blue broke his jaw, and all for just 800K. I hated the signing last year, and ended up eating a huge serving of crow. Boyle was an absolute steal for us.

As much as I want to agree with you, the guy is getting really old. Our core guys are all superstars, but Boyle was never even close to that caliber of player. I wouldn't mind him coming back, but I don't expect him to be anywhere near as effective as he was last season.

Or we could just go all in on the memes and being old and sign both him and Phil Kessel again. What could possibly go wrong?

Sure, but the Zucker contract is incredibly rough. He is one of our highest paid players, and yet has had an underwhelming stint in Pittsburgh. Players making that much are expected to have a positive impact on their team. Zucker had a poor season - his shooting percent and points/60 were some of the worst of his career, not to mention the injury issues that kept him from half the season. His defensive metrics were a step up from what they were in the last few seasons, but that doesn't really make up for the lack of offensive production when we expected Zucker to be a 25+ goal, 50+ point scorer as well as a soolid 200 ft game.

As every sane response has mentioned, picks need to go the other way in the ANA trade

I have zero clue how our core being superstars relates in any way to a cheap 4th line player playing 60 games with minimal minutes for 800K??? And he is the same really old age as Carter, so I assume you expect Carter to drop off just as badly?

I agree with everything you’re saying. But the Penguins are already over the cap space and need another forward that’s actually good. Just is a waste of a spot with how much forward depth they already currently have.

Ah, ok that makes sense then. And yes, ship has sailed on bringing him back...Poehling took his spot.

Dude, at least Toronto fans were giving us two players for a 2nd and a 3rd (Kerfoot and Holl) in their still hilariously lopsided AGMs.

Zuckers cap space is significantly more valueable than Zucker the player is. Therefore, Pittsburg has to add picks to get him moved.

That ANA trade is awful - you'll need to switch those picks to the Pens side if you want them to take Zucker.

And please no Boyle - let him go. There's no room for him

Carter has been a legit top 6 player for most of his career. Bryan Boyle was not.
The only team I'm aware of older than this version of the Penguins that has won the stanley cup is the '02 Red Wings that had 10 Hall of Famers. Old teams don't often succeed.
I made the distinction between the Big 3 and Boyle because players of that caliber, especially with that level of work ethic, don't decline quickly.
But I do expect Carter to decline some, and if Boyle was essentially a 13th or 14th forward last year, he's going to at best be that again. I'd rather have a guy like DOC or Poehling there if they don't end up being a regular on the roster.
