Description
Leafs trade opens the money to extend mathews while strengthening the RD with severson. They also get devils 2 best RD and 3rd best RW prospects, with some draft cap. After this trade they have 1m in space this year with 5m+ coming off the books at the end of the season.

Arizona needs a top goalie and somebody who matches their play and can score. Throw in devils 3rd best RD prospect and 4th best LD prospect while getting a draft pick.

Anaheim gets some speed with potential for a pick and a taxi player.

That's a steep price to pay for a forward who lost his entire season to hip surgery. I may also still be scarred from Ryan Kesler and how much speed he lost after his surgeries.

Absolutely dreadful deal for the Leafs. Interesting how the Devils make great improvements and the Leafs get a rental. Also your explanation for Matthews makes zero sense.

Nylander isn’t worth
(1) our top dman by TOI over last few years
(2) one of our A-rates prospects (and favorite of our GM)
(3) a former 1st round winger
(4) taking an unwanted contract
(5) the picks

Just promote Holtz, trade Severson at deadline for picks/prospects and see where we get. We will have a ton of assets and cap space to fill holes next off-season.

Leaf's decline, we don't need more defenceman and nothing in that deal would make our team better because we aren't filling any needs (defense) and making a need that we already have bigger (top 6 wingers)

I agree, except the part about Stillman. He's a long shot with low upside and I wouldn't put him in our top 10 prospects.
