moves for matthews

Created by: evanonthemoon

Description
cooking up a rough draft of how to make the right moves for this roster moving forward. the main emphasis for next season is to continue selling off assets and weaponize cap space in order to maximize the potential for a generational talent in the stacked 2023 draft. the idea for the 2023-24 season would be to allow young prospects to develop with the majority on the NHL minutes as the bad contracts start to end. this would lead to the offseason prior to the 2024-25 offseason, where the obvious priority is to sign auston matthews. with the cap space created by years of barren rosters and younger players, arizona should be able to offer him a ridiculous amount of money. this offseason should also be the perfect time to begin moving quantity to quality with the amount of picks and young players that arizona will have stacked up over the years. i targeted charlie mcavoy from a boston team that will likely be rebuilding by this time, as he would be a perfect 1D that is young enough to fit this new matthews window (no that is not the actual trade i can’t project the top prospects arizona will have in a couple years other than geekie and maybe soderstrom)

fairs. wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign for ~20mil in arizona assuming the cap jumps to 85mil+ and arizona’s ownership is on board

NY gave up 2 seconds to get rid of Ladd. I am not convinced Bailey is a cap dump, but he certainly shouldn’t cost a second and a third to dump if he is. They would be better off keeping him at that point instead of giving Kadri a 7 year deal lmao.

He'll probably stay cause of marner and bunting, and he does like Toronto. I think he'll stay a leaf for ever
