Drouin Fresh Start

Created by: Wreckless
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2022
Published: Aug. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Most people who hate on Drouin have a massive misunderstanding of mental health issues. And I’m probably being too kind. The more likely argument is most probably have significant character flaws that they try and mask through their hate and their anger.
Drouin will likely strongly benefit from a fresh start. There’s very little risk on an expiring contract, and the upside could be huge for a team trying to win now.
Puljujarvi could also use a fresh start. Habs retain salary on Drouin to make it dollar for dollar.
Oilers rent before they buy. Same as they did with Kane. And Kulak.

How many "fresh starts" does this whiney unproductive forward really need? He certainly hasn't earned one

It doesnt matter if drouins issue is a broken leg or mental health, he still has no value as a trade piece.
Your weird rant and terrible justification doesnt change that

He does not produce up to his 5.5 million salary. But leaving aside the money, he has a much higher ppg ratio than JP.

MTL need to add to complete this trade, factors are age and cost control.

I suggested Habs retaining $2.5mm to put him at a $3mm salary. Dollar for dollar trade.

Very presumptuous of you to think that people who don't like Drouin have significant character flaws... He has not been a valuable hockey player for numerous seasons. That means his trade value is low. He also carries a cap hit of 5.5 mil, which is high for a forward with his lack of production. Those are facts. It's unfortunate that he has been struggling with mental health issues but do not assert that the reason people aren't fond of him is because of that.

I didn’t say all. I stand by my opinion that it’s most.

Cap hit would be $3mm in my post.

Puljujarvi’s trade value is also low.

I'm not sure how you can be so certain that "most" people who don't like Drouin are doing it because they are terrible people? If you can show me some facts to back up your opinion then I could understand it. If not then I'm sitting here thinking you are just offended that people don't like Drouin period.

Not “certain”. (I.e. the definition of an opinion). Feel free to read the comments on Drouin on this site, and the vitriol towards him, and come to your own conclusion. I stand by mine.

So was Kane. And Kulak. Rent before you buy.
Drouin is a better player than Puljujarvi. Age is the reason why I wouldn’t suggest Edmonton needs to add. Realistically though, Puljujarvi is a UFA after this season also, if the Habs don’t want his contract set in arbitration. They would probably either agree to terms ahead of time or choose to not qualify him (making him a ufa).

Drouin has better numbers, but he's not a better player. He isn't good defensively, cannot play physical and also he is susceptible to injury.
Also, Drouin is completely free at the end of the season while JP is not. JP is younger and still has a little ceiling margin.

Susceptible to injury, yes. But also the better player. Puljujarvi isn’t good defensively either. Nor is it fair to describe him as physical either.
Drouin has performed well twice in the playoffs. Puljujarvi never. Drouin’s speed would be a weapon on an already fast Oilers team.
People laughed at me for repeatedly suggesting Kulak would fetch a 2nd rounder from Holland, but that was bang on, and also ended up being an excellent trade for the Oilers.

What sideways metrics are you using to determine that Puljujarvi isn't good defensively?? Dive into that a little
