Seems like a bit of an overpay, especially considering that this puts them right up against the cap ($73,375 left). Someone's going to have to go to make room (and this is assuming Bernier's out for the year, if he comes back it gets even more complicated).

meh the marino for smith trade was okay but the haula for zacha trade is still kinda baffling

losing the sweepstakes for all of gaudreau, fiala, and (most likely) miller has really soured the grand scheme of things too

Fine signing. Wood brings a lot to the table when healthily. Will be common trade bait name at deadline.

If Bratt and Wood got 1-year, one has to expect Zacha would have gotten the same here.

And I don’t believe Fitzgerald was too invested in Gaudreau, Fiala and Miller. Tkachuk, yes. But those others, it seems unlikely.

Should have not qualified him but like Fischer had a deal in place to sign him for like 2.5mill x 1 year. In other words a show me you are all better from that injury and still got it kind of deal

This to me is a tad to much

Didn’t think he would get 3.2M after missing a full season.

The zacha trade is bizarre.

This contract seems poor

I'm fairly convinced who ever signs miller is going to hate the contract. And the price seems like it's going to be high to acquire him

This contract seems somewhat poor. He missed most of last season. Is sub 1/2 a ppg player. And this walks him to Ufa. I like that he's a physical winger but otherwise... Seems like a poor contract

From what I've read sounds like Gaudreau to NJ was pretty close and that they were the front runners behind clb

Team was at $2.975M heading into arbitration on Aug 6th - an extra $0.225 to limit the risk seems reasonable to me.

Guy has to bounce back and prove himself this year. Lots of money up for grabs with the Devils next season.

UFA at the end of the deal. If the Devils aren't in a playoff spot come the deadline, he'd make solid 3rd/4th line pickup for a contender and the Devils could get a nice little return.

This dude is an elite straight-line skater with good scoring touch and strong physicality. If he plays 65+ games next season (big if), this contract will be fair for both sides.

This is a fine contract with limited risk given the 1 year term.
A lot of you guys are seemingly unaware or not remembering how well Wood played before his hip surgery:

As for the cap, it may seem that this puts the Devils up against it with 73k projected cap space, but that's counting 13F, 7D and 3 GK.
Though Zetterlund is yet to be signed for 800-900k, 4.1m will be eliminated for a significant portion of the season as Bernier will go back to LTIR.
If Bernier is activated at some point, he will just be waived retaining a 400 k cushion.
Nemec will also not play in the NHL, so another 950k created.
Whenever there's an injury at D, Okhotiuk, Bahl or Walsh will briefly be called and sent down in between games since they are waivers-exempt.

The Devils team should be set for the upcoming season by now, though there remain some uncertainty with McLeod.
Shango - Hughes - Mercer
Palat - Hischier - Bratt
Johnsson - Haula - Tatar
Zetterlund - Boqvist - Bastian
// Wood, McLeod (Thompson)
Any situation were the Devils don't have to dress Geertsen for 20+ games is a big win in my book.
