Staying Competitive 2023-24

Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Description
Bergeron and Krejci retire. Reilly is gone 2022 or 2023 for cap relief to any team for a low pick. Grzelcyk is traded for more cap along with Studnicka for a decent young center in Rasmussen and a pick. Forbort goes to Florida who will need a defensive defenseman. Ullmark goes to Minnesota who needs a goalie. We get Merrill for some defensive depth, Jost for some younger forward depth, and a 2nd round pick. Signing Miller as the top line center to replace Bergeron. Having a younger cheaper option play 2c in Zacha. Letting the bottom six be filled with younger guys/prospects. Replacing Grzelcyk with Orlov who should be better in the playoffs. Signing Schenn for more depth. With very little cap space, we can bring a goalie up from Providence, or sign a veteran for cheap.

Minnesota isn't taking on long term G contract when they have wallstedt. They are also in cap hell and aren't the team to dump your bad contract on

I see what you mean it’s just in this scenario we need to get cap space so I guess another team who needs a good 1a/1b goalie could get him. I just saw that Minnesota had a few useful pieces for us.

Agree Minny is not taking Ullmark. Disagree that he’s a bad contract.

Amongst qualifying goalies last year was 12th in sv%, 9th in GAA, 12th in GSAA.

Also 3 years is not long term for a top 20 goalie that has not hit 30 yet.

Minny is just not in position to do it.

I don't mind the Detroit trade as a Detroit fan. I like Grezlcyk but don't like losing Rasmussen but feel he is replaceable. Jersey fans say Zacha at centre is a bad idea but that's up to you. Depending on Detroit's goalie situation, meaning of Ned resigns, Ullmark might be of interest there for the right price.

If Ullmark went to Detroit, would you trade Bertuzzi back to us? I’d say Ullmark has more value but I don’t know.

The problem for that trade is Stevie Y, look at all of the defenseman he has drafted and signed, all are min 6ft and at least 180 pounds. It's clear that he wants the team to have a heavy defense and I am not sure the Grezlcyk will fit into that plan. Like the player thou.

If next year unlikely. Either you can sign Bert as a free agent, or the wings have signed him at an extenstion and are unlikely to trade him.

Bertuzzi has way more value than Ullmark to us. Boston would have to add more than they should ever want to just to make the deal work. Considering we have Husso right now we wouldn't be desperate for a goalie unlike maybe some other teams. The problem with both of those players is there is not a need for them, they would just be nice additions but not needed so the price we would pay for either or both wouldn't be very high. Some other teams looking for players in those positions would be inclined to pay more.

Yeah I know, I like the player though but Yzerman likes his size on the back end.

Yeah I forgot this was for next offseason and that Bertuzzi would be a ufa. With an extension I don’t think we are trading for him. So never mind Bertuzzi coming back to Boston in an Ullmark deal. Bertuzzi would definitely have more value with a long contract extension.

I mean alot of teams needs capspace. Minnesota isn't the place, so yeah like you said another team would be best.

Ned requested the trade to Detroit I wouldn't worry about resigning him and with Husso signed for the next 3yrs it gives Cossa plenty of time to develop. I'd say a goalie is something Detroit doesn't have to worry about.

I totally feel Ned will resign, but if there was a chance he didn't then that would be the only way Ullmark would be interesting.

I do agree and I really don't see him making any more trades this offseason. Him filling out the roster with UFAs is so he didn't have to give up any assets in trades like this. I also think this has been the goal in the last couple of off-seasons but with how bad Detroit was I don't think he was able to accomplish it until now.
