Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 5, 2022
Published: Aug. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Nashville has lots of cap space and could use a middle 6 forward and are weak on RD while stacked on LD - Tomasino is controllable and cheap with upside but had a tough finish to last year. NSH is in win now mode and Kerfoot and Holl help that after McDonagh deal and signing Nino, Forsberg, etc

Cap controlled players like Tomasino is exactly what Nashville needs since they are in a win now mode. Instead of taking on more expensive depth pieces, they can go out an acquire a rental of significance.

Also, they aren't going to trade a prospect they are high on for two mediocre rentals straight up.

Not a chance.

And why do you say Tomasino "had a tough finish to last year" -- I don't really see that. He had 7 points in his final 15 games and played in 3/4 playoff games as a rookie. I'm not sure I would expect much more than that. And you're calling out the recent signings/trades as to why NSH would be interested here, but that's exactly why they wouldn't. They don't have the cap space anymore to add $5m+ in Kerfoot and Holl, even if they wanted to. Tomasino is more valuable in terms of potential and contract to NSH-- they won't be trading him either way though.

Cap space won't be an issue, once NSH trades Sissons and Borowiecki to CAR for Seth Jarvis. Based on the trade here, that's the going rate for young top six forwards apparently. sarcasm
