Well the Isles do not trade Beau, they trade Bailey.
They would play Romanov who they acquired.
Johnston would not be in the lineup.

Nelson-Barzal-Wahlstrom
Lee-Kadri-Beau
Parise-Pageau-Palmeri
Martin-Czizkas-Clutter
Johnston
Koivula

Pelech-Pulock
Romanov-Dobson
Salo-Mayfield

I'm a Rangers fan, but them missing last year was a bit of an anomaly... adding Kadri makes them fairly instant contenders to even the average hockey fan... I don't know how one can miss that

They compete with CBJ and NJD to take WSH's spot, who will surely miss without Backstrom.

Beauvillier is worth a lot more than two career AHLers and a 3rd

In an environment where Bjorkstrand goes for a 3rd and 4th, he's not. Norlinder also isn't a career NHLer, he's a prospect. Pezzetta just graduated to the NHL last year.

Which ignores the reason Montreal doesn't do it - they don't have the cap space and don't need him.

And the isles dont have interest in trading Beauvillier, so it doesn’t matter what Bjorkstrand went for. Also the isles aren’t in cap hell.

Sure they are. Pazzetta is fun to have and Norlinder is still an iffy prospect at a position in which the Habs are quite deep. The best player in the deal is Beauvillier, which means the Habs should take the deal.

How much is Montreal paying to move the salary to fit him? Its the cap era, trades are not nearly that simple.

I would counter saying that you should ignore "TheRealisticGuy", since he clearly has a selective memory and torques people's comments. I suspect he's mainly burned because I pointed out that he doesn't understand the US collegiate rule that will make Struble a UFA after this season. FWIW, this was my exchange with CHAR:

Gallagher has one of the worst contracts in the league. Not a chance in hell Montreal moves that.

Conventional wisdom would suggest you are correct, but if Gallagher, as he says will happen given the long off-season to heal up, regains his form and scores on a 30+-goal pace again and does all the other great stuff he does, there might be teams willing to take his term in return for a shorter problem contract of their own.

So, yes, I did say Gallagher MIGHT be moveable in the right circumstances but certainly not right away. And I stand by that.

As to Burnout's question:

Today, Dadonov could likely be offloaded reasonably easily, though his NTC likely complicates matters.

Anderson would not be a hard sell for any team with cap space, but given his history with Dubois and the hopes for Dach, I suspect the Habs aren't eager to part with him unless it's a very solid offer.

With a decent start, Drouin would fetch some interest, though it's just as likely the Habs might offer him a "lifer" contract at a much-reduced AAV. Drouin at $3M would be a bargain. At that point, Beauvillier becomes a lot less appealing.

I agree with the general consensus that moving Hoffman and Byron would be tough, though, if playing well, either/both could attract interest at the trade deadline, but I doubt either would fetch much. Hoffman is a credible addition to a team that needs scoring and has the other components in place. Byron, with an expiring contract, is a no-risk move for a team that needs a versatile veteran who, when healthy, is a significant' plus player.

MTL like Anderson, they won’t move him

Dadonov is a cap dump and the cost to move his contract is a 2nd RD pick

Drouin is bad. Scouts aren’t blind, the guy can’t play defense, has the worse work ethic and can’t stay healthy. They don’t care how much PPG he can do, the other factors are too important

Hoffman is horrible, his contract has terms and he couldn’t score with MTL using him in the top 6. Why another would commit on this guy ? Waste of cap space, they pass. Better option out there

IF Gallagher score 30 goals like you said, then MTL won’t trade him. He will remain on the 3RW and he’s been the heart and soul of this team

Byron could be move at the TDL half retained for a mid round pick IF he stays healthy. Maybe a 4th or a 5th
