The Isles say no, Barzal is better than Duchene, has a better contract and he will be an RFA after his contract expires whilst Duchene's performance is most likely going to drop in the next few years. Beauviller is also worth more than Jankowski and Borowiecki alone.

Barzal has never produced like Duchene is capable of. Duchene had a couple rough years in NSH at first, but he and Hynes seem to have figured it out. Barzal doesn't have Duchene's level of talent.

All three of the Isles in this proposal underperform for what they get paid. NSH takes on a lot of salary here and gives up the best player. It's not something they'd consider.

Yeah I’m sure Duchene has figured it out lol - he had an outlier year with a ridiculously high S%. Duchene is not better than Barzal, you can add a 1st rd pick and the isles would still decline

Barzal singlehandedly carried the isles to 2 straight ECF. Duchene doesn’t have that level of talent

Barzal couldn't score 43 goals, if you gave him two seasons to do it. He's a mid-carder getting paid like a headliner.

Barzal has been an elite 1C for 4 out of his 1st 5 seasons, Duchene has had one great season in the last 5 years.

Duchene is a one year wonder, wait until that regression to the mean hits next season. Age + regression won’t be too kind to Duchene.

Imagine being a fan of a franchise that's had players like Bossy, Potvin, Trottier, etc and calling Barzal elite.

Elite must be a club they'll let anyone join now.
