2024-2025

Created by: ML16
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2022
Published: Aug. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Remaining tasks to complete the competing core :

- Replace expiring UFA Savard by a legit top-2 RHD to balance the D corps ;

- Find a equilibrium between bridge contracts and long term lock ups in renewal talks with Slafkovski, Dach, Farrell, Guhle, Barron, Harris, etc ;

- Explore potential « quality for quantity » trades involving RFAs and prospects considering the pool is deeper than what the Habs can realistically hope to sign or re-sign ;

- Depending on the Habs’ young goalies’ performances, find a perennial solution between the pipes (in which the goaltending pair doesn’t take +10M in the cap structure!) ;

* The Habs likely have a few more picks than it appears since it doesn’t take into account that Dadonov, Allen (Drouin?, Byron?) and Edmundson (and Hoffman?) likely fetch future assets at TDLs 2023 and 2024.

* The 15M cap space (Price LTIRed) will dwindle significantly once the ELC contracts of Slafkovski and 2023 1st expire; trading Anderson (and/or Gallagher) around that time wil give a new impetus and cap flexibility to that emerging core ;

    Hard pass from NSH. That's too high a price to pay for forward depth they don't need.

    As a +55% FO center who can reasonably achieve 50 pts / season locked up midterm at 4.5M, I think Dvorak fetches at least a 2nd and good prospect from pretty much any contender needing a viable middle-6 forward before the end of his contract.

    I concede that Nashville already has Sissons as a great FO specialist (on an even greater contract under 3M) and might not be the ideal trade candidate for Dvorak, fair enough.

    But for the discussion sake, what would be the asking price for Carrier? With 24M locked up long term on the Predators’ top-4 Ds, he seems like an expandable? What are the organizational needs?

    Really don't see Carrier being trade bait any time soon. Fabbro maybe, as he's more likely to be relegated to the 3rd pair than Carrier this coming season. It's hard to say, until we've had a chance to see who McDonagh has chemistry with. Either way, NSH is looking to contend right now. Can't see them trading either for futures, and MTL doesn't have much in the way of roster players that would be available, that NSH would have much interest in.
