Foote,Mercer and Newhook are all top end prospects that now give Sharks a future core to not only work around but build with and getting rid of a guy whos going to need a big contract and another guy who would just be waisting the rest of his career in SJ while getting a fair return. And the draft picks are basically a sweetener, most likely a 40-50th pick(2nd NJ) and a very late 3rd round or early 4th based on how you look at the Colorado team

Well, Well, well i do one recherch just for you.
And analyse your trade.

SJ put on table 2 top gun under 27 year old + 1st pick (Merkley) ( total value 5 1st pick)

SJ receved Mercer, Foote and Newhook (3 1st pick)
Bernier is out forever.IR.
+ 2TH AND 3th pick.

So MAYBE this 3 guy becoming a star, maybe not.
Mercer and Newhook is close to be...
At the end, Colorado pay Newhook + 3th for à star.
NJ pay Mercer + 2th for à star.

Honestly that the différences Between 2 Star 100% and maybe à star.

Risky business for SJ.
But i love Mercer and Newhook and they are so young if they become a Star for 15 year each....

I love to see Colorado put 1 more pick( 2th) and
For SJ not give Merkley and it's a DEAL

But still SJ take the risk.
But sometime, the risk give high reward...

Foote is not close to a top end prospect, he's likely a third line guy. The sharks ultimately move their two best and most valuable pieces on the team for yes, some good young players, but guys who are by no means proven in this league. It is a massive risk for San Jose to make these trades and really get not great returns back and zero 1st round picks. For two stars in the league, a 1C with term under 28, and a 25 yo point per game player with team control, its not a great return at all.
