Is Demko really worth more than Tkachuk?
I cannot see it.
Rather the Devils just offersheet Oettinger or Swayman next offseason than recklessly trading two blue chip prospects away.

Oh yes, demko is worth more than Tkachuk, I'm not even sure this would be enough, goaltenders, especially legit #1 s on a great cost controlled contract with term..I was just spit balling on maybe, as a nucks fan, I'm not sure I would even give demko up for that..but who knows Roy left Montreal.. anything is possible

No, Demko is not worth Tkachuk. Goalies NEVER move for alot in trades, really regardless of who they are. Name ONE goalie ever moved for a haul like this? Also, Varlamov isn't a cap dump and you're over the cap.

As I recall, Roy got traded for quite a haul, rucinsky, Thibault and kovalenko, bobrovsky got 10 million a year, goaltenders don't move, especially ones like demko, mostly because yes that would be the cost. Your not just getting the goalie with demko who is proving just how good he is, his contract is also the value at the cost and term

Even back when Roy was moved, it was said to be extremely underwhelming. What does Bob getting paid have to do with anything also? We are talking trades, no contracts. Only goalie in the league right now that would move for a haul like this would be Vasy.

Im a demko fan but basically every metric has him at like 7-10 in the league. Hes making 5m for 4 more years. Its a good deal but its not this crazy massive underpay. However that trade is a massive massive overpay by NJ. Youre trying to compare demko to roy its like trying to compare boeser to gretzky.

On another note varlamov is certainly not a cap dump.

No my point is a goalies value to a team, say like bobrovsky got 10 million a year, a #1 goalie has more value than most teams can part with, or pay for hence the overpay in florida , that is why i brought it up. Ifyour a gm and you have a legit #1 on good salary you have what any team would be looking for, look what Colorado has to do, play musical goalie in their crease, just like Toronto, Carolina, Philly, etc. Van Is lucky to have him and his contract and it's not a slight on varlomov on his abilities but to move cap for any reason in the nhl well cost you just ask Vegas and pacioretty

And the point of others being that this would be an insane price compared to marginal differences in getting other goalies as mentioned in Oett and Swayman.

This would be such a massive and insane move. It's not a two team league, there would be other moves to make that wouldn't cost a top 5, top 20 prospects (According to Scott Wheeler's latest list), and top picks on top. You are just trying to talk yourself into a delusion.

it's hard to find good goaltending in the league Demko is a top 3 goaltender, it's going to take a bigger overpay than this for Vancouver to bite

If you have Twitter @JFreshHockey ranks him in the second tier of goalies, which is goalies 4-6, his account is based on advanced stats to rate players. In pure stats he was 10th in GSAA (Goals saved above average) but was tied for fourth in point shares. (Was estimated to give Vancouver 12.4 points). I think a huge reason as to why he isn't even higher on stats is the Canucks played him while he was battling with injuries, he was playing nearly every night under Boudreau.

Not a top 3 goalie and goalies are never worth this much. Can’t wait to see Canuck fans trade Myers for 2 firsts soon enough

Ok well, this trade idea was a late night thought, but reading all the replies demko is only worth maybe a 2 ND and a prospect I guess lol maybe we'll just keep him, and if new jersey wants a bona fide goaltender I'm gonna wait and see them trade for I dunno shesterkin for a bag of pucks or how about vasy, maybe pucks and a Klondike bar... that is apparently their value lmao....o man

Yeah i subscribe to jfresh but you didnt mention any metric. You said a guy who happens to use advanced stats ranked him 4-6. How about the fact that jfresh has demko at 90% war out of 75 goalies which would put him in the 7-10 range. How about the fact that demko wasnt even in the top 10 in goals saved above expected all season. And if you manually count all the goalies that have higher wars than demko he sits 8th behind vasilevskiy, hellebuyck, kuemper, saros, sorokin, shesterkin, and raanta.
So aside from these tiers which dont seem right bc i manually counted and he was 8th there is no metric that has demko at 4-6

That is literally the worst trade I have seen on the site to date with NYI involved. VAN gets a first on top of it in a draft that is league wide viewed as a strong one and first are considered commodities sought by all? NYI does not need to dump salary at this stage at all. They can run it back with the group that made ECF two years in a row and assume last year with all the BS was an aberration. Even if they go for Kadri this is still the worst NYI trade I have seen to date on the site. If they don't go for Kadri they can even move Varly at the deadline to a team in need for a strong return if they are themselves out of it.

Literally the worst trade you've scene huh...I think you isle fans are maybe living in alternate realities lol, there have been alot worse on here than what I'm proposing , if you guy want Kadri and to sign dobson/romanov/ bellows your gonna have to pay someone to take Cap back, I don't care who it is, if your a gm looking to shed salary you guys seem to think it'll just happen cause your the nyi lol no gm is out there looking to help another gm with their cap issues , pay to play....the worst trade on here...omg ridiculous
