If muzzin or murray isn’t injured for 6+ months, then you can’t do it. By putting a player on LTIR, you are committing to them not playing for 6 months.

Milano could be what Bunting did, sign a cheap deal with the hope of landing on the top 6 and get to produce at a 60+ point rate to get a super large payday. Bunting's career with the Leafs will likely end after this season, he'll easily get over $4 AAV on a long term contract like Hyman and Mikheyev leaving the Leafs did.

2 weeks, a player must be injured for 2 weeks before his salary can go onto LTIR.

Nhl players get paid bi-weekly just like us normal folk, so once a player goes 2 weeks injured, all pay checks afterwards go to LTIR until he is cleared to play.

Though that's only if the team can't afford to keep him on IR and stay under budget with a player replacements.

That's why you'll see odd things like teams calling up minor players to be bench warmers when injuries occur, it's to use up the LTIR cap relief money excuse.

I honestly think Murray goes LTIR, he is owed $7 million in real cash and maybe the Leafs save a few bucks by getting the insurance company to pay some of that amount.
