Additional Details:
I don’t know what Florida will need in a year, but right now their blue-line will have Ekblad, Montour and Forsling. Maybe Nause, Ludvig or Kiersted join from pipeline. But I don’t think they will have the space to add a top-4 dman from UFA pool (at $5-8m).

Why are you trading a player you just acquired?

Because I want a #1 goalie for future and we have a surplus at RD.

Panthers have no interest in trading their #1 goalie of the future and also have a surplus at RD...

Tyler Bertuzzi wants close to $7,000,000 to remain in Detroit per Kevin Allen and Bob Duff, He's not taking less in high taxed New Jersey no way.

And zero chance of any of those pieces landing Spencer Knight, That trade is pretty laugh

If knight is traded it’s for younger hughes not some scrapes

This would be a deal next summer. They have 3 NHL dmen under contract for 2023-24.

Between Daws, Guzda, and Gerasimyuk…they should have options when Bobrovsky is up in four years.

It’s about $40k difference in tax.

Goalies just don’t have that kind of value. They are very important but also highly volatile.

Of course you would want more for Knight but Marino becomes your third best defenseman and your second best on the right side. Better than Montour and Gudas who is a ufa after this year. Marino is a good replacement for him to kill penalties.

Doesn’t matter. Panthers just traded Levi who wasn’t as good of a prospect for reinhart I dont see that type of player the panthers are getting back.

Marino was just traded for a low end prospect and a 2nd or third I forgot which one. Knight is worth much much more than that.

Reinhart wanted out of Buffalo. And had one-year of team control remaining. He could have signed his QO at any point and become a UFA in 2022.

Marino is a top-4 RHD on a team-friendly contract for *FIVE* more years.
Bahl is a solid prospect, a 6'6" defensive dman.
Daws is a good young goalie prospect...probably a solid back-up.

He was traded for Ty Smith, who last year's top dman in Calder voting, and a two-time CHL dman of the year. Not some "low-end prospect"

    My thoughts exactly.
Florida is going to need more on their blueline.
And Knight is RFA next year...not sure he will want to lock-up long-term to wait 4 more years to become #1.

They could swap out Bahl and/or Daws for picks or other guys. We have plenty to chose from.

Want to know who else was ohl player of the year. Heponiemi. And he’s done nothing he is a yandle player who nj already gave up on. He didn’t have a lot of value. If you want knight you’re gonna give up a good player or prospect and also panthers can’t afford to take in cap so it wouldn’t happen regardless of who was in the trade.

Heponiemi was WHL rookie of the year, not OHL player of the year.

(CHL includes OHL, WHL and QMJHL)

List of guys before Ty Smith who were CHL dman of the year:

    Nic Hague
    Thomas Chabot
    Ivan Provorov
    Tony Deangelo
    Derrick Pouliot
    Dougie Hamilton
    Ryan Ellis

List of guys before Ty Smith who were top dman in Calder voting

    Cale Makar
    Rasmus Dahlin
    Charlie McAvoy
    Zach Werenski
    Shayne Gostisbehere

    This is a dumb argument.

Ty Smith heavily stalled last year, down to only 20 pts as an offensive defenseman. He is not that valuable, certainly not nearly the value of knight.

The comparison made was Smith to Heponiemi, not Smith to Knight.

Cool. For this package you can pick any of the three you mentioned. Heck, maybe even a sweetener. But not Knight

I’m just proving a point that it doesn’t matter cause Ty smith won’t be any of those players but pouliet who was a bust as well.
