Oh to be a player with Arbitration rights. Poor Heinen and Rodrigues.

This was an over pay for the production he brings.

Is he better than his offensive numbers? Because outside of two years ago where he scored like an okay third liner his boxcars are a fourth liners.

Why would his arbitration have paid him much?

He's a solid and versatile all situations player who has a generally positive impact despite a primarily defensive role.
It's not as simple as bottom 6 = overpaid. Some of them are worth it, and $2.2M is a reasonable amount. You can't only have bottom 6 plugs under $1M to fill out your roster.

Appleton had a great year 2 years ago and so Seattle grabbed him. His first year as a Krak head did not pan out so his numbers were way down

The Jets obviously signed him based on his Jet play

Who knows what the arbitrator would have awarded, they settled before it got there. Which is why it’s better to have Arib rights than not

Arbitration goes by past precedent. The precedent for q career 11 g and 25 pt player is going to be around a million bucks

Winnipeg is buying 1 RFA Arb year and 2 UFA years. Again, if Appleton was a FA like all the other bottom 6 forwards unsigned yet, he’d be lucky if he’d get anything more than a 1-1.5, especially after across 68 games with Seattle and Winnipeg in 2021-22, Appleton scored eight goals, 13 assists (tying a career-high), and 21 points. Having RFA rights is nice

I like this for the Jets. Appleton was on a solid upwards trend prior to getting selected by Seattle for expansion.

Being between two teams last season and coming back to the Jets, who seemed to have lost their identity between coaching change and underperformance, lead to a somewhat disappointing year.

With a fresh start this season and a new coach, I think Appleton can resume his growth as he enters his prime and make this deal look like a steal.

If you have a good team, he's a 4th liner. You don't want to spend this much money on the fourth line. This is a little much, even if he splits his time on the third line due to injuries.

Well going to be a 3rd line player for the Jets this upcoming season and is looking for a bounce back year. Looks like the brass have confidence he can perform there for the next three seasons. Kind of reminds me when they signed Perreault to that nice little contract that worked out so well for them. I like this deal in so many ways. A guy you can move around the line-up and can play on the PK unit. Nice deal Chevy!

None of them play for you going forward and you are paying them to play for other teams or sit at home in Ryan's case. Talk about "over pay"
