Another Kraken Trade Compilation

Description
This is another compilation of proposed trades involving the Kraken that were created by people on CapFriendly. I've included my thoughts on each as well. I didn't include proposed trades I covered in my previous edition, the link to which is pasted below:

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3532705

Once again, most of these proposed trades I saw don't really make sense for Seattle, whether it was from a value or fit standpoint. I think everyone looked at the Bjorkstrand trade and figured Seattle was open for business when it came to dealing their stockpile of draft picks. The truth is acquiring Bjorkstrand was the result of the Kraken weaponizing their cap space to get a very good player at a steep discount who is in his prime and under contract for multiple years at a fair rate. It does NOT mean they are willing to pay a premium for veteran salaries other capped out teams are desperate to move.

Overall of all the trade proposals created by others that are listed here, only trades 5 and 6 make some sense for Seattle in my opinion. Even in those cases the deals might require some tweaks, and Seattle's willingness to pull the trigger on either would hinge on non-quantifiable factors.
Trades
1.
SEA
  1. Pearson, Tanner
Additional Details:
Pearson's a decent player, but the Kraken have a bunch of veteran winger depth already, especially after re-signing Donato. They have zero reason to help bail the Canucks out of their cap situation by paying a draft pick for a player similar to Donato, especially when the proposed price is not much less than what they paid for Bjorkstrand, who is a far superior player to Pearson.
VAN
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (SEA)
2.
SEA
  1. Dillon, Brenden
Additional Details:
The Kraken are well stocked at left defense with Dunn, Oleksiak, and Soucy, not to mention Ryker Evans waiting in the wings. With that in mind, it doesn't make sense for them to trade draft picks they could use to build up their draft pool for a 31 year old defenseman who they could have had in the expansion draft.
WPG
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (WPG)
  2. 2023 6th round pick (SEA)
3.
SEA
  1. Ruhwedel, Chad
Additional Details:
This sort of deal where a team gives up a draft pick for veteran depth is one a team more ready to seriously contend would make (like Pittsburgh, ironically enough). For Seattle, it makes more sense to keep their draft picks to build up their prospect pool and give Will Borgen a chance as the third pairing right defenseman.
PIT
  1. 2023 4th round pick (SEA)
4.
SEA
  1. Zucker, Jason
  2. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
  3. 2025 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
The first round pick is enticing, but I doubt the Kraken go for this. Given the costs to shed salary right now, it's likely going to cost quite a bit for Pittsburgh to offload Zucker, even though he only has one year left on his deal (See how Columbus traded Bjorkstrand instead of Nyquist to become compliant). I don't think a late first and fourth is enough to both do that and return McCann, who is locked up through his prime at an affordable rate and is coming off a breakout season. Not to mention Seattle just extended him, so clearly they view him as a key piece to their core moving forward.
5.
SEA
  1. McGinn, Brock
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (PIT)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
This is more along the lines of what Seattle would do at this point in time; take on other teams' salary to gain additional draft capital. It is worth noting that Tanev was having a very good season prior to his injury, and the Kraken seem to value him as a leader. So that has to be taken into consideration. Beyond that, whether Seattle takes this sort of deal or not depends on if the draft picks are enough value to make it worth both downgrading from Tanev to McGinn and retaining half of Tanev's salary for three years.
PIT
  1. Tanev, Brandon ($1,750,000 retained)
6.
SEA
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Of all the trades I've seen sending Kerfoot and/or Holl to Seattle, this is probably the most realistic. Most involve Seattle giving up 2nd or 3rd round picks, which I don't think they'll go for given where they are at as a franchise. However, I could see this sort of deal framework happening IF the Kraken want to prioritize an immediate boost to their forward group over giving someone like Geekie development time and they think they can extend Kerfoot.

I think we can all agree Seattle is mostly a placeholder for “any team”

Probably but this is an interesting breakdown of these proposed deals. Nice to have the logic behind why someone thinks a trade wouldn't work vs the standard "that's dumb, instantly rejected" type response

There were definitely some of those, but I didn’t include any in this post. For each of the trades above there were at least a couple of examples where people were directing them towards Seattle specifically.

I'm at the point where I don't understand the Penguin deals from our perspective either. The Hextall management protected Kappy and Carter over McCann. They resigned McGinn as a Tanev lite. They just extended Ruhwedel, and are happy with having this many NHL caliber defensemen. We can discuss the effectiveness of these moves all we want, but I doubt they'll want to go back on these moves so soon. Besides, I think it's worth noting 1) that with how stacked next year's draft is expected to be, I'd be very hesitant to give up a 2023 first for 1 more year of Zucker, and 2) McGinn was a lot better in the first half of the season than the 2nd, and missed a good portion of March and April.

Probably not. The Kraken have a surplus of forwards that are either younger than Pearson and need playing time to develop or are just better. There's not really room for him. Plus, the Kraken seem to really like Soucy and turned down trade offers for him last year, so I get the impression they might end up extending him.
