I think the idea of Klingberg being traded around the deadline should be taken very seriously and is 100% the plan unless somehow the ducks make a magic run and are near a playoff spot.
Now if that will be Columbus, maybe. they do take swings but I also am not sure they will be in a playoff spot come deadline time. I see the penguins as a team to watch there as well.

He even kinda mentioned it in the press the idea is for him to try again for a long-term deal as a free agent next year.

Yeah he will, he'll be disappointed again most likely. But he will. I like Columbus I think they're better than they get credit for. The pens I think are more likely to go after a winger. They have Petry and Letang for the right side. Would say Florida but they don't have firsts.

What’s the rule on extending on a 1-year deal? Have to wait until deadline?

If Colorado was really savvy, they do this at start of year then extend at deadline for balance of deal. They can clear EJ’s deal off the books in meantime.

2022-23: 1x $3.5 million
2023-29: 6 x $7.0 million

Is same to Colorado as $6.5 million x 7
And same to Kadri at $7m x 7

(But probably circumvention)

Im not sure but that risky bet for Kadri. He's coming off a Career year and a Statistical Outlier season compared to his career. His Value could drop tremendously.
