who is going to be the next Husso

Description
Looking at some goalies who might have a breakout year coming from somewhat nowhere/exceeding expectations.

Just used Husso as an example as not many people were projecting him to be a starter someday (atleast from what i had seen) and now he's getting paid like a starter.

Not doing prospects like Wallstedt and Cossa just guy's that will play some games in NHL this year

I think some of these guys shouldn’t qualify. Husso had only started 17 games before last season, guys like cal Peterson that have 90+ games wouldn’t quite be out of nowhere like Husso was.

I would bet on one of the caps goalies. A lot of those guys in the middle tier are more highly rated prospects than Husso was and on the right those guys are too established

Vanececk started 42 games last year, Husso had started 17 games total prior to last year. It’s too late for Vanececk to be the next Husso, though he could be a Jack Campbell.

95% of all the goalies listed here have started at least 42 games

Tarasov, fedotov, fucale, skinne, and Thompson are my bets. Tarasov most of all.

i could see skinner, comrie or stolarz having a breakout year with very few past starts. martin too, he looked good in really limited action last year. swayman i think is too good already to be on here

You forgot the "not at all promising" category lol. Never say never, especially with goalies, but at least half of these guys have gotten numerous chances to be more than ok to bad backup options and none of them have run with it. Samsonov, Vanacek, Lankinen, Hill, Petersen, Blackwood, Vladar, Kahkonen have all played enough games by now that we probably know who they are.

I also wouldn't even be too sure that Husso is the next Husso. He was terrible in the playoffs, and the last Husso in Nedjelkovich was bad after getting paid for his big breakout

I doubt Samsonov ever becomes an elite goalie like many said he would

ya that's true tbh i didn't quite realize Husso had only played 17 games before this year. So maybe should've specified the criteria a little bit better

I didn't really have a set criteria to determine who is/isn't on the list (i probably should have) but just considered Vanecek already established as a 1A 1B type of guy

Ya all very true. Husso could be a replica of Binnington with one good season and downward trends after that.

Should've created a more specified criteria for the basis of the team. The thing about Samsonov is he is only 25. If you look at other 25 year old goalies in the nhl there aren't many at all.

I think guy's like Kahkonen, Blackwood, and Peterson each team probably hoped/expected they would turn into starters some day. I could see one of them having a late career surgence and becoming a solid starter for a couple of years in there 30's

Guy's like Lankinen, Hill, and Vladar still should have a chance to prove themselves.

Ya that is very true. Should remake the team with a defined qualifications. I honestly didn't realize Husso had only played 17 games before last year. Which really makes him unique

Ya i think guy's like Skinner, Comrie, and Stolarz kind of fit the mold of being on the verge of a breakout year. and ya Swayman is so good just still so young is the only reason I put him on here. Crazy how Boston picked him up out of the clouds
