Moving Sandin is not the first option

Created by: ReginaSask

Description
It’s not the first option but it is nevertheless an option. Moving Holl only makes another hole in the defence, so to me it’s Kerfoot and Sandin out, especially if he wants Adam Boqvist money.

Not the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh… u get what I mean. When Muzzin is gone whos gonna fill in for him at 2LD? I’d argue that even now sandin should fill that roll. Also this is too much for Arizona

What has Sandin done to be worth what is essentially 2
First round picks? Top 10 picks at that

Sandin is an established NHL defenceman who’s already good enough to be a 2nd LHd. He may become a top pairing defenceman. Those 2 prospects have yet to make any mark in the NHL. Guenther looks good but we need to see how he does in the AHL. Soderstrom still has time on his side but he’s not in the same calibre of player Sandin is

I’ll take that as a compliment. I think the users there are more knowledgeable on average than what I see here at least in this part of cap friendly where every prospect is treated like they’re Bobby Orr

Yeah Sandin isn’t worth either of those players

All he’s shown he is in the NHL is a bottom pair defenseman on a top 5 team.

In no way has he shown he is a capable top 4 defenseman, if he had done that already he would be signed no issues in TOR. And him asking for 2.6M or whatever has been rumoured would be a bargain and signed immediately by the Leafs

You’re reaching way to high here on a Sandin return. Sandin is currently a bottom pair defenseman that might become a top 4 guy

He was playing a top 4 roll at the end of the season for us. He’s already ahead of Muzzin on the left. If it wasn’t for Muzzin’s contract being awful I wouldn’t even entertain trading Sandin. You are overrating the two prospects who have made no impact in the NHL yet

Sandin is a good defenseman so far and still quite young but he's not worth two top prospects. Soderstrom could be just as good if not better.

What are you basing that off of? Because his AHL play has been above average but certainly not special. It’s not impossible but I wouldn’t bet on Soderstrom becoming the better player between the two. Guenther still has more upside but we need to see him in the AHL before we can gauge what kind of NHL player he will be

I'm not guaranteeing he's going to be better just he has the potential to be. Also he is likely their projected top RHD for the future so they aren't going to trade him. There is no guarantee Sandin becomes any better than he is now either.

Sandin is an established NHL player. For all we know those two prospects are busts and never make an impact. People here love to overrated prospects and if you’re a rebuilding team I can understand why. Most teams though have a core of stars through the draft and build the rest of their team through UFAs and trades

but if you’re arizona, a rebuilding team, why trade two guys you used top 10 picks on for one non-elite player? sandin’s proven he can be an nhler already which neither of them have, but they invested a ton of draft capital into these players and they’ve been progressing well. why give up on them and further extend the rebuild to get one guy?

Guenther is progressing well. Soderstrom is a 50/50 bet at this point to be a full time NHLer.

why would you give up a good bet and a 50/50 shot for one good bet and a <20% shot with the 2nd rounder?

Hey I'm sorry everyone is roasting your bad trade but just because people don't want to give you two of a rebuilding's teams top prospects for your middle pair defenseman doesn't mean that they are treating prospects like they're Bobby Orr. It means that they understand that the Coyotes trading for an NHL level player to hurt their lottery odds today at the expense of two prospects that have a non-insignificant chance to be just as good as Sandin is not smart management of a rebuilding team.

Find a team that's trying to be competitive but has a bad left side and try to trade Sandin there. Montreal figured this out a month ago when they traded Romanov
