Kadri isn’t a priority over Dobson….this isn’t close to being enough for him

Lassi and brannstrom are both 1st round picks, Jarventie was the first pick of the second round and a stud. If NYI is cap constrained this could probably get it done. This is way more than the DeBrincat return.

Nail Yakupov was a 1st round pick. Doesn't mean he has high value today.

The whole league lining up if dobson available, going to need an abundance of gold to add him.

debrincat was on the block, dobson is not. he’s literally one of the very last people they’d move with a cap issue. if it came down to keeping dobson or signing kadri, they’d pick dobson. it’s a non-starter

None of these guys are Nail Yakupovs lol. Brannstrom would be in our top 4 if it wasn't for sanderson, lassi has serious potential to be a second or even top pairing d man, jarventie has a nasty shot and is on track for a top 6 role just doesn't fit in our system on the LW anymore. First round picks amount to nothing all the time, it's a lot safer to bet on signed prospects multiple years separated from their draft year

We are not spending an unconditional 1st round pick with no lottery protection, just to dump Zaitsev.

Try again.

Yea I totally agree Dobson should be prioritized over Kadri, it'd be a major mistake by NYI letting him go. This is just meant to be what I'd give up for him if by chance NYI **** up and lose him. Lamoriello probably already has dobson locked up long term honestly lol

That's what it'll take sadly. If it was second round pick(s) + other lower assets it'd be done already. Also we'd only have to top 10 protect a 2023 first round pick, the top 10 protection would just push it to 2024

The only thing fueling your argument is your bias towards Ottawa prospects. They are good, not nearly as good as you are making them out to be

We are better off keeping Zaitsev.

Name three different instances where a team spent a 1st round pick just to make a cap dump.

I'll wait.

Yea I'm not disagreeing lol, I would rather eat zaitsev's contract. This is just to fit Dobson on the team for this what-if scenario, whenever I make a trade to dump zaitsev with a 2nd plus other assets I get told not enough it'll take a first so I just wanted to avoid that

FWIW, the one example that I know immediately off the top of my head is when the Leafs spent the 13th overall pick in 2020 to dump Patrick Marleau.

That was when Marleau had a NMC on a 35+ contract with a cap hit of 6.25 million.

Nothing happens to the player's cap hit if said player is bought out on a 35+ contract.

At the time, the Leafs were completely out of options.

Other than that, I can't think of any other examples.
