Be Patient This Is A Rebuild

Description
I am only guessing Price ends up on LTIR. He may start the season but reports don’t sound very good with the knee. I am guessing it’s almost over for him and we should have him on LTIR sooner than later.

Byron probably will clear waivers so send him down and let another winger have a shot.

Trade bait:

Dadonov almost certainly will be traded before the deadline. The other player I think is most likely to go out the door if he remains healthy is Allen. We would be better off letting Primeau and Montembeault play in net. Where Dadonov and Allen would land is of course a mystery given its August and the deadline is so far off. I’m only taking a guess with these trades.

That's a realistic value for Allen and on the premise that one of Quick or Petersen is injured (God forbid), that's an entirely reasonable exchange.

You can probably add Drouin as another TDL deal with retention, given he stays healthy and has a somewhat decent season to that point

I think the Kings would do a trade like this if both of Quick and Petersen got hurt. If only one, I think they're content to give Phoenix Copley a try.

You’d want him coming in for a playoff game?

But Jake Allen is valued super high so it would definitely be a 2nd RD pick +. Kevin Weekes said 07/07/2022 : I’m told several clubs are expressing interest in G Jake Allen … 08/07/2022 G Jake Allen still drawing significant interest in the market. David Pagnotta 08/07/2022 : Planty of Jake Allen chatter, but so far I’m told it would take a hefty price to get him from the habs. So with those reports, I don’t think it’s possible Jake Allen with retention only returns a 3rd RD pick when there’s not a lot of option out there (at the 2023 TDL). Kent Hughes got Justin Barron + a 2nd RD pick for Lehky, a 2nd + 7th RD pick for Kulak, a 1st + 4th + Smilanic for Big Ben. Plus Kent Hughes will use the 3 retention slots to on Jake Allen Evgeni Dadonov and Jonathan Drouin to get the best return possible

No, Jake Allen isn't getting a second plus. There will be at least 8 backup goalies available at the trade deadline, including the best one just down the road.

I could see Allen returning a '23 2nd with retention but idk about a 2nd +...maybe a 2nd and a 7th if the market goes in the right direction

I don't think Allen gets move if it's not for a 2nd +. Maybe only a 2nd if Price is healthy at the TDL and MTL are in the bottom of the standing, no reason to keep him past the TDL. If Price isnt healthy, Allen will remain a Habs IMO and I wouldnt be surprise he gets extended

Instead of giving up assets for a backup, yes. The Kings have a solid history of backups coming up from the AHL and taking over for injuries. See Budaj, Peter.

Idk if Price's health will really affect Allen at the TDL, unless somehow the Habs manage to get into a playoff position in which case he stays put. He's likely still a Hab because Hughes is probably asking for a 2nd+ without retention, gonna have to see how the start of the season plays out before a price actualization can be agreed upon I'd imagine.

A 3rd round pick is barely an asset. Most of them don’t even see NHL ice. Jake Allen is a very good 1B option. A backup is different. Allen can start 40 plus games a year for a team. You basic rotate two goalies now as it is

Jake Allen is like Lehkonen and Kulak
Other fan base are like yeah he might be decent but I wouldn’t pay too much for him
But if your team overpaid for him (in your opinion), you’ll see he would have been worth it

I’ve noticed a major skew in how other fans view him. I think they just see he’s on a bad team and assume he’s not playing well

I think Jake Allen is a very good backup goaltender, or at best a mediocre 1B goaltender. I just don't think the Kings have any need to trade for another backup if they already have a backup with NHL experience in the pipeline, especially since they have a very good track record when calling up their veteran backup from the AHL to cover for injuries.

That’s fine I was saying I’ve seen it in many threads regarding Allen. I’ve seen an Oilers fan say they wouldn’t take him at 50% retained for a backup to Campbell during a playoff run because in their mind Skinner is already a better goalie (which is absurd).

Skinner has been good on a small sample, Skinner is definitely not better than Allen tho, but some were saying Koskinen and Smith were better than Allen, which is hilarious
