He’d be giving up essentially nothing for a great player that could get him a cup

Kane is a hall of famer for what he has already done, and that means nothing to the Rangers trying to win a cup now. Renting him for 1 year is no guarantee they win anything and what they give up makes them worse for years to come. Not worth it.

He’s one of the best wingers in hockey right now. It’s not “what he has already done”. Prospects and picks are for bad teams who are rebuilding. They aren’t important to contenders unless you have a top tier prospect. The players you mentioned aren’t even close to top tier prospects. A late first rounder is usually an average NHL player. None of the pieces you listed are going to be what Kane is now

Again....Kane would be a RENTAL so that is way too much to pay for a rental. Teams need depth and youth if they want to be competitive for a long period of time and the Rangers window to win a cup just opened up, so trading away youth and picks for an aging vet as a rental is silly unless its a steal. This is not a steal. Trade Kane to a team that can sign him, then you will get better value.
