Could've been more term but that cap hit is nice for a contending team

Very good deal. Fair AAV, and not too much term in case Necas doesn't wind up blossoming. Obviously they lost Trocheck, but from the Burns trade to getting Pacioretty and Coghlan for nothing to the Kase depth signing to getting a haul of picks in the DeAngelo trade-Don Waddell has had a heck of an offseason.

Where does this leave CAR's cap situation?

Good signing, but funny to think Canes fans were insisting the AAV would be south of 3 million on a bridge

Young skill guy getting a short deal to prove himself at the right price. Good deal for both sides!

Still RFA at the end - tough to not like this deal for Carolina. Would be easy to move if they end up in a tough position too.

Gardiner either gets bought out / buried, or Bear gets trades for peanuts

I think the buy-out window closed, even after arbitration signings re-opened it.

Isn't CAR already $1M over, even with Gardiner buried?

They are 1 mil over with Gardiner going against the cap at his full 4 mil, with 2 or 3 more roster spots needed.

They will either bury Gardiner and work with 8k in cap space (they won’t)

Or they will trade Bear. I am not entirely sure if they can buyout Gardiner or not.

Actually they can’t even bury him because they have to bring up Drury

This is a contract that has been rumored for months and I'm so glad it's over, now we are the cap by 1.16 mil. If we buyout Gardiner (which seems to be the case) we'll have 2.2 mil in cap room. Or we can trade Bear and have 1.1 mil in cap space. Gonna be interesting to see what happens. All I know is one of the Dmen are gone. Good deal otherwise though

As I keep having to say... This is a good contract, in a vacuum. However, I'm not sure the Canes can afford this. It's still a good contract, but it means someone else will likely have to go.

Gotta buy out Gardiner (if possible) or move Bear. Unless there’s a bigger deal they’re still in on which I doubt.

Believe they have until Thursday for this new buyout window from lejoie arb. That’s assuming they can buy him out - some confusion around their ability to do so bc he was on LTIR last year and may have not passed his physical yet.

Have faith, brother. The great 'Waddy' might not be done yet.
