Description
I know very unrealistic but could kreider be a piece Drury moves. I know it's not the end all be all since he wasn't named captain. Maybe he didnt want it but I would be ticked off if I were him. I love Trouba as the choice though.

i doubt it, but I feel like he'd get way more in a deal now. 50 goal power forwards don't grow on trees

It’s crazy everyone thought that was a terrible contract but all the sudden 50 goals for 6.5M is a steal

I don't really think his contract is bad... he's good defensively and a solid contributor. People just want bargain deals but when a player wants to get paid they complain.

Gauthier really interests me. If he were this cheap to acquire, I dunno why the Jackets wouldn't take a shot on him possibly being a long term bottom 6 option. That amount of size with a bit of mean mixed in would be a very appealing experiment.

Boston is already 2.2m over the cap, and in cap trouble next year. Do you see a flaw?

It’s funny there are a lot of guys that are supposedly potential 50 goal scorers, but the number of guys that have actually done so isn’t that long. Odds of him doing it again are very slim imo, but last I checked, he got 50 last year. About as legit as could be, instead of the usual b.s. people say about if someone was healthy or had better line mates they could’ve done this or that. We can only see the results in front of us and those results show that Kreider has scored 50 goals.

they are in cap trouble next year? They have close to 26 million in cap and are likely to shed one defensemen like Forbot or Reilly. But I guess I also have to think they are losing PB and DK and have to fill those spots.

25m avail. Only 5 forwards under contract. Pasta/Swayman/Zacha/Frederic could take 20-22 of that 25. Leaving 3-5 for 6 forwards, at least 1 of them needs to be top 6 center. I’d say that’s trouble. Oh…and that does not include the bonus overages.

It's either Kreider or Panarin. I don't think they move any of the centers or younger players, that doesn't really solve their problem. Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Kravtsov, and Othmann are all looking to make a bigger impact in the next couple seasons. I have no clue how they're going to afford Miller, Lafreniere, Chytil, and Kravtsov next season.

Could be Goodrow but Chytil might be the most expendable of the kids, especially since he'll need a new deal next offseason, theres also Jones if Gallant let him cook on the 3rd pair

...honest to G-d Almighty, do we honestly seriously need to be even considering an eighteenth NHL forward? Nineteenth, if Marchenko is counted?

I like this deal for NYR (long-term in mind) BOS would need to move a player (Taylor Hall perhaps?) but as for the contract and type of player he suits the BOS team.

As for the deal it also makes a little bit of sense, now when it seems Trouba will be captain (although all recent captains have been traded)

Chris might agree to BOS trade given he is from Boston.

A trade like this would also signal they are not going for playoffs next year. Only difference I would put Kakko on the Laffy - Mika line. And Blais with Panarin and Trocheck.

Oh sure he has, but his career high before this year was 28G. He had 26PP goal this year and shot 45% higher than his career average. His trade value isn't of a 50G PWF. If he was a UFA no one would have offered him a deal like he's a 50G PWF.

Yes.

Okay. How many of our existing guys are we going to blithely throw away to continue to pursue this stuff? Because, as the Bjorkstrand trade starkly demonstrated, that's what we'd be doing.

Which ones, and why are they ones that need to be thrown away in the service of adding yet another 24-year-old reclamation project that hasn't demonstrated a damn thing at the NHL level?

I just looked it up, it’s scary the only active 50 goal scorers currently playing in the NHL are Ovechkin, Stamkos, Crosby, Matthews, Draisatl, Malkin, Perry and Kreider. Kreider literally put up the 7th best goal scoring season among active NHL players.

Yup very hard thing to do. And of that list I'd probably only consider Ovie a legit 50 goal scorer. Drai is on the fringe and Matthews is close but needs to do it for more than 1 season.

Stamkos did it twice, but I get your point.
