Wanted to start this thread for A) a team-specific discussion for the three prospects representing the team and B) to give any Bruins fan who can't watch the games an opportunity to see how their team's prospects did.

Locmelis had a nice first period vs Finland. Very active in all three zones. Was the first man back on a 2-on-1 that ended up being a goal, but as an offensively-minded forward it was good to see him working on the back check. some really nice passes as well. Still a lot of game to go but couldn't really ask for a much better start from him.

Overall, can't complain about Locmelis' performance against Finland. One of the few bright spots on the team if I'm being honest. Worked in all three zones, skated well, showed some good creativity and an ability to perform with and without the puck on his stick. Despite his effort, he wasn't particularly effective in his own end, but I wouldn't expect him to do based on his play style. Displayed great passing ability throughout the game. Overall, solid game from a player who wasn't getting much help from his teammates.

Riley Duran made a great impression on Team USA last night against Germany, picking up a goal and an assist, and overall having a really good night in all three zones. He was always moving his feet and as a result was in the play a lot despite limited minutes on the fourth line. Durban’s assist was off of a bad angle shot that got stuck in Nikita Quapp’s pads and tucked in. His goal was honestly a bit soft, Quapp almost certainly should have had it. But Duran had earned the goal with how hard he’d worked throughout the game. Overall, two solid performances by the Bruins prospects on Day One of the WJC

Haven’t updated this in a little bit so I’ll rapid fire the last two days of WJC:
Lysell had a decent game against Switzerland. Picked up an assist. Displayed his elite skating ability but there were times where he looked lost on the ice. Definitely an up-and-down game for him but could have been worse.

Locmelis had a night to forget against Canada. He took a stupid penalty late and was overall inconsequential all night long. That creativity he showed in game one was gone, likely as a result of the uptick in competition against Canada. Really not much else to say about this one.

Duran continues to prove his worth for Team USA against Switzerland, picking up his second goal of the tournament. Like the first game, Duran was all over the ice despite his low minutes. Another hard working game for him, and he had it pay off on the scoresheet.

Lysell had a killer second performance following his meh debut game in the WJC. Picked up a goal and an assist. Also forced a penalty shot which he didn’t capitalize on. His skating ability is top tier. He utilizes it to elevate every other aspect of his game. He’s able to make players around him better too, especially in the o-zone. Great game two, expect big things for the rest of the tournament from him.

Locmelis had a pretty good game against Slovakia, scoring a goal and overall playing quite well in the offensive zone. He had his lapses defensively but none overly costly and it’s frankly to be expected from him. Good game overall, he probably only has one left before being eliminated to nice to see him pot one during the tournament

Duran continues to prove his worth for USA, this time putting up 2 apples in Americas 7-0 routing of Austria. Duran had another high-end game, displaying a high iq and great three-zone ability. Another strong performance. 3 for 3 outta him so far.

Not a great day for Bruins prospects yesterday. Locmelis had his worst game of the tournament despite his team playing their best game of the tournament. He just looked lost on the ice, barely contributed much of anything.

As for the USA v Sweden game, both Lysell and Duran failed to register a point. But they both played okay hockey. Duran wasn’t on the ice much, but he was sound in all three zones in his scarce opportunities. Lysell had flashes of offense, using his advanced abilities in both skating and puck handling, but had nothing to show for it. Overall, a day to forget for Bruins prospects. All three of them get a day off from games before the Quarter Finals

Another meh game from Lysell. This tournament has yet to be all that great from him. He had that one nasty goal a few night back but that’s kind of it. He did pick up an assist in this last game against Germany. And he flashes his elite skating fairly constantly. But there just hasn’t been much else. I’m not at all concerned with his performance in this tournament, I’d much rather see him perform better at the Bruins Training Camp than at this weird summer WJC.

Both Locmelis and Lysell had very good games when they played each other in their Quarterfinals debuts. Both players earned themselves an assist, and Locmelis was named Latvias player of the game. Both players drove offense in a huge way. Locmelis played even better than his first game of the tourney. He was a very hard worker in all three zones, extremely good playmaking skills. Very creative passer, and a wicked shot, which was less used in this game but important to throw out there as it was seen throughout the tournament. Lysell, on the other hand, showed off his elite skating again, and packaged it with high end puck skills and playmaking, as evidenced by his assist. Lysell and Sweden move on to play the winner of US v Czechia. Go USA (would like to see Lysell v Duran)

Frankly, there’s not much to write about Durans game last night. He was pretty quiet, like the rest of team USA. Overall though, you have to be happy with how Duran performed in the tournament as a whole. 2 goals and 5 points in 5 games, good defensively. And overall an extremely useful depth piece for a good U20 team.
