He’s 19 lol

Will be 20 in 3 days but in general he was taken 2nd OA and should be a every day NHL guy rn but his development has been to slow for a guy taken as high as him. Will need to wait and see how he performs this year but LA does have other guys they can go to should they decide to trade him. Could come back to bite them but they are very close to being finished their rebuild so they can afford to take some risks here and there especially considering their pool is deep. Also they could really use a LD like him

Better let him develop than rushing him into the NHL. Want him to turn into Kaapo Kakko?

Big centers usually take longer to develop. He profiles like Joe thorton who didn’t break out until his D+3 season. Trading Byfield would be reckless , LA doesn’t have another young forward with his upside in the system.

But the difference here is LA got that deep prospect pool, rangers was kakko and then everyone else

So technically they could move on and not worry to much. Rangers basically had to rush him as they didnt have another RW comparable

I guess calling out which players you think are overrated on an ACGM can get you in the doghouse with the admins because I got a slap on the wrist

Anyone who subs to the Athletic: is there a tool for filtering using Dom’s model? Like is there a list of every player that you can sort by GSVA or whatever or do you have to look at every individual team page and scroll to the player card. For example if I’m interested in seeing the lowest market value, or best defenders, or scrolling to the 40th best GSVA

I disagree. He was always seen as a project pick with crazy potential. Kings should've developed him better imo.
D+1 year: OHL
D+2 year: AHL
D+3 year: NHL

It's hard for him to develop given 12 minutes a night in the bottom 6

I mean unless they give up Byfield (very unlikely) or Clarke (probably not gonna happen either) it’s not like they’re gonna beat Ottawa’s offer. Greig is probably the best prospect both teams have that would be a possibility to get included in a Chychrun trade (Ottawa’s not giving up Pinto or Sanderson). And given how young our established top group of forwards is (plus Chabot/Sanderson), most of our prospect pool is expendable. The only caveat is that we have to keep at least one of JBD/Thomson, but I’m sure LA feels the same way about Clarke/Grans.

Kings should move Turcotte+picks for Chychurn. Turcotte is expendable

Turcotte is beyond expendable. His development has stalled. Honestly I’m not too impressed with LA’s developing. Covid screwed everyone, but the Kings seemed to just roll over and die rather than adapt when it comes to developing their prospects. Kaliyev is the only one that’s really succeeded over the last couple years. Maybe Durzi too. But I’m kinda disappointed with how they’ve handled Byfield, Turcotte, Bjornfot, Vilardi, etc. All of those guys should have been key contributors. Remember when Byfield-Turcotte-Vilardi was supposed to be the new Crosby-Malkin-J. Staal lol?

They had one of, if not the best prospect pool in the league last year but somehow managed to mess up their prospect's growth. Maybe playing your top prospects low minutes in the bottom 6 is not the best idea

GOAT

I was going to post this and make fun of him for still being in the NHL and going from the best team to the worst team but then I remembered his parents stole all his money so I’m happy that he has a ring and a job now, go JJ go

His parents basically became his agents and used all his money to buy cars, houses, borrow more money, and eventually racked up $10 million in debt-on his name, not theirs, It's a really sad story, especially because Johnson seems like a really likable guy, married with kids to boot. That's terrible. Can't believe his own parents would do him like that. Is there any updates on the case? Is he out of the debt now?

Gonna get flak for this but LA should honestly explore Byfield trade as they got to many good C prospects and honestly I feel they are going a different direction and he hasnt caught up yet.

But he went 2nd OA yeah but hes not played like a 2OA yet and how long does LA want to wait

I was strongly vocal against LAK taking Byfield ahead of Stutzle in 2020. The latter was as close to a sure thing as a top six player as you can get. The former had (still has) a very high ceiling, but was far more risky. I think LA lives and dies with this pick. No chance they trade him as long as current management is running things.
