DAMN IT. I hope that doesn’t kill Zaitsev move to Arizona

Yotes only need 1 contract around $5 mil to offset Andrew Ladd's retirement to hit the floor. Anything after that has to be an offer they can't refuse

I think it basically comes down to making it very hard for Montreal to end up with a good pick unless it makes it to 2026, where the protections end. Montreal gets a choice in 2024 if it’s in the 20-32 range, protection shifts from top 19 in 2024 to top 10 in 2025, and Montreal gets the higher 2025 pick if neither is top 10.

looks like it's expensive to move contracts right now. i'd hate to be a team above the cap.

You never want to see a professional athlete have to leave the game due to injuries. If this is for Carey, will always remember this moment. Dude was so clutch.

Classic-after watching and waiting, I go off the grid for a bit, and the NHL blows up. Of course.

My thoughts on the Kadri signing-WAY too much term given that kind of AAV. Kadri has the year of his life at 31 years old, and for that you give him 7 x 7 million?! If it was a one year deal-excellent signing. But paying NAZEM KADRI-a man who has scored more than 65 points in a season ONCE in his decade+ long career-$7 million a year until he's 39?! That's going to hurt the Flames big time down the road, and this isn't even counting the Huberdeau extension, which also has the potential to age quite poorly.

Admittedly, the Flames will be very, very good for the next couple of years. They'll be a fun team to watch. But long-term, this is going to bring pain to Calgary, no question.

Thoughts on the Monahan trade-terrific move by Kent Hughes getting the Habs another 1st. The conditions are ridiculously complicated on the surface, but not that crazy when you read through them slowly. But for CGY, they're really in win-now mode, if they don't succeed they're in for rough times in a few years-no cap space and no picks will do that to you.

Thoughts on Carey Price-it would be a bleeding shame if he never plays again. What a career. Hope he has success.

conditions (if i understand the page of conditions, like wtf)

if CGY's 2024 1st is within 20-32, habs can swap the pick for the 2024 1st

if CGY gets the FLA 2025 1st from the tkachuk trade:
if both CGY and FLA picks are NOT in the top ten, then MTL gets the earlier pick
if the CGY pick is in the top 10 and the FLA pick isn't in the top 10, then MTL gets the FLA pick

if CGY does NOT get the FLA 2025 1st from the tkachuk trade:

- if the 2025 CGY 1st isn't in the top 10, MTL gets the CGY 1st, and if all the following conditions are met:
> 2025 FLA 1st isn't in the top 10
> 2025 FLA 1st is traded to another team
> 2025 FLA 1st is higher than 2025 CGY 1st,
- then MTL gets 2025 CGY 4th

- if the 2025 CGY 1st IS in the top 10, MTL gets the CGY 1st, subject to the following condition:
> If CGY's 2025 1st is the FIRST OVERALL PICK, then CGY keeps their 2025 1st, and instead, MTL gets 2025 CGY 3rd, as well as a conditional 2026 1st round pick. the condition is that MTL will receive the better of CGY or FLA's 2026 1st

Boston apparently is trying to move Craig Smith but isnt in a rush to do it

Considering what we have seen so far better off just keeping him

Sekeres man. Don’t trust a thing he says. He said there was a divided lockeroom between Miller and Horvat which was totally busted. He also said Hughes was on an IV during the COVID season which also ended up as total baloney. Not many Canucks fans trust that loser anymore

I feel like it would’ve just been easier for Calgary and Montreal to forget the trade conditions.

Treliving wants to make sure this L is as small as possible.

Smart decision considering how bad the Chiarot trade could backfire for FLA

I feel like by the time the 2025 draft rolls around, both GMs will have probably forgotten all the conditions

By the time FLA drafts next time in the first round I'd wager Zito has forgotten the protocol of how the draft goes.

Like, the next first round pick they own that is not under any conditions is in 2027...

Also on Carey Price, man was an amazing goalie, really sucks his career was plagued by injuries, he was our heart and soul for years, sucks we couldn’t get him a cup in 2014 ( annual f*ck Chris Kreider ) or 2021, at least we got to see his brilliance in net ( including the 2016 World Cup ). I’d retire Price’s Jersey if I’m Montreal ( though our standard for retirement is pretty high most likely, with our history, we can’t exactly retire all good players, still need to have at least 23 numbers available lol ) and I’d argue Price is HOF material ( though no cup will hurt him )

From 2012-2021, Bergevin acquired only one 1st round pick and it was from the Kotkaniemi offersheet.

Hughes has been on the job for 8 months and has acquired four 1st round picks (+ a 1st round prospect).

Imagine counting the 1st that you owned for exactly one second from the Dach trade 💀💀

Why wouldn't it count? They acquired it by trading one of their roster players and could have kept it.
