That’s a little harsh. He’s good defensively and he can drive possession. Probably tops out as an average 2C.

Driving possession is a lot different on the 4th line than it is on the 2nd line. Being good in the bottom six doesn’t always translate up the lineup. Sometimes you’re just a good bottom sixer (this is also how I feel about Balcers and especially White fwiw). I’ll believe Kotkaniemi is a 2C when he earns it. Until then, he’s overpaid because of a dream that he has yet to show could come true.

That and Calgary does have like what 3mill in cap or something

Why not bring in a nice 3rd line playmaker on a 1year 1.5-2.5mill deal

Hot take: Chychrun is the next Devon Toews once he gets moved except Arizona won’t trade him for scraps

his game is nothing like Toews though - Toews is elite because he makes the smart, safe play with consistency all the time. He doesn't force things. Chychrun's offense is revolved around shooting from everywhere.

We’ve got around 2mil to bring in a guy. Maybe a little more if we trade Valimaki. If there wasn’t the baggage of “must play this guy or else” and he was willing to sign for 1.5mil, I reckon the Flames would have already signed him. I’m kinda disappointed we didn’t end up with Stastny.

Ya, they are most likely taking salary back (1.5-2 range). They waited waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to long to move him. Unless there is so bigger deal in play

Heres my thoughts

I think they are focusing more on something like a Muzzin trade to get Sandin signed and play LD while also having the means to keep Kerfoot and Holl. But at the same time they could also be looking at potential bring backs for Kerfoot (i.e. Raddysh, Jost, Grant, etc) or just get a pick out of it and exploring options with associated teams

He was also at like 90% defence this past year on JFresh card

Right now Kotkaniemi is a 3rd line caliber center, he's also put up these results with below average QOT. IT doesn't always translate , but its a good bet he will improve in an increased role with better linemates. Balcers played against tough competition with good linemates, more ice time will likely lead to an increase in production

Isn’t like 14G 32A = 46pts realistic for him on a good offensive team?

Yes, I’m talking about overall impact. I think Chychrun can be a solid #2 on a good offensive team.

Chabot, Chychrun, Sanderson would be a very nice trio. Surrounded by Hamara, JBD/Thomson, Zub etc

I mean, still a pretty big deal

46 is one of the most random and unthinkable numbers I've ever seen. Good riddance

The one thing Namestnikov has over those two is he's smaller, quicker, and more agile, which generally fits Tampa's narrative better

So now pretty much one big name left then we go to the depth guys.

Expecting Kessel to be signed soon then we should see guys like Rodrigues, Milano and other guys to give in and sign 1 year deals with new teams (even non contenders)

True but Kessel is the better playmaker and put him on the third line with Paul and Colton probs would see both those guys achieve greater point totals

I could've sworn Zegras got announced on the cover weeks ago. I must be losing my mind.

Leaked cover from a couple weeks ago

Speaking of which, if you see the number on Zegras', it starts with a 1

All signs point to Zegras being the cover boy but hopefully this isn't the cover

All else equal, seems like drafting from the Nordic 1st tier leagues will on average give the best chance of the prospect turning into an NHLer.
US national development program and Allsvenskan are very good for prospect development also.

Yes, I’m talking about overall impact. I think Chychrun can be a solid #2 on a good offensive team.

I feel like he’d be a good fit in Ottawa, especially if he’s at least decent on the right side (or rather, as long as at least one of Chabot or Sanderson or him is decent enough on the right side to pick up an extra 10 even strength minutes per game). We’ve also got two very good right shot playmakers in Batherson and Giroux, so one of them (probably Giroux tbh) is more than capable of being the guy that runs PP2 from the left point, leaving Chychrun open for one-timers on the right side, which I think is a role that would fit him well. At even strength, he’s decent at moving the puck and solid defensively, and can handle some big PK1 minutes (presumably Chychrun-Zub would be our go-to pair in the last minute of a game for example, and Chychrun would also pick up minutes on the left side of Hamonic or right side of Chabot at even strength). And then like Holden-Hamonic would be the 3rd pair/PK2. Idk, the fit could obviously be better if he shot right, but I think he’d fit well in Ottawa’s system. He can settle in nicely as a #2 or #3, doesn’t have to be the main guy all the time, just crunch 20-22 minutes a night with PP2 and PK time. And obviously there should hopefully be no issues with our forwards on the ice. Top 9 looks excellent next year, and guys like Greig and Jarventie are on the way (as well as a handful of guys with a shot at being top 9 contributors).
