Improving The Bottom Six Is So Important

Created by: ReginaSask
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2022
Published: Aug. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All of the teams that win cups get a lot from the bottom six. This team is so too heavy that we get nothing out of the bottom six. I know none of the big names are getting traded so it leaves us with Kerfoot and Holl to trade.

Additional Details:
They have cap space and a 4th isn’t much for them to pay. They’re trying to make the playoffs too, so bringing in Kerfoot doesn’t hurt.

Like the first two trades for the Leafs but do not think that the Leafs would want to part with Sandin and Villeneuve......To my mind.....Villeneuve is looking like a great draft pick for the Leafs and Sandin is a potential top pairing defenceman for years in the NHL.

I also think the Leafs existing 3rd line is going to be incredible this year and the 4th line has been brilliantly rebuilt this offseason with some UFA signings and promotions from the AHL which the Toronto Media has no understanding and mis-reporting.

"IMPROVING THE BOTTOM SIX IS SO IMPORTANT'. Well that ship has sailed since the Leafs has 4.75m Murray. Mikheyev and Kase gone from last years team, and for looks like Kerfoot is a cap casualty.
Little chance that new additions (whoever they are) will be nearly as productive as the players who have left.

Countless Leaf fans think NTC Muzzin is going to waive to non playoff team for picks, just because they want cap.

I actually thought the Leafs 4th line was a mess last year with Spezza, Simmonds, Clifford, Blackwell etc......with too many older veternans who were out of gas at end of the season which included Spezza.

Kase was great player.......but has too many concussion issues and was not very effective at playoff time.

I am looking forward to a higher energy 4th line this year with Aube-Kubel, Gaudette and some promoted Marlies......and some hungry younger hockey players.

Trading Kerfoot may be a cap necessity.....which furthers weakens the Leafs forwards from last year unless Leafs get miracle seasons from the new additions. I was one who suggest trading 7m Nylander was the best solution, with no cap returned, but that ain't happening now as teams cap/lineups are basically filled by all teams.

No. Muzzin looked good in the playoffs so he's really not an LTIR. Of course so many Leaf fans think LTIR is the "get outta of cap hell jail"

Hope you're right. I really optimistic that Robertson and Steeves secure LW positions .

I think Dubas must be on the same page as you........as he has left 2 leftwing positions open for Robertson and Steeves behind Bunting and Engvall assumming Kerfoot may be moved out......Maybe Dubas signs a leftwing UFA or trades for a leftwing if Robertson and Steeves not up for the job when the season actually starts.

Though I did not like the Jarnkrok signing....his term especially, he might be the the next "Kerfoot". Playing LW and filling in at centre when needed. Leafs are weak at centre depth in case of injury and really have no Marlies ready for the NHL.

I did not realize he can also play centre which is a bonus and I guess Envall could be moved back to centre in a pinch if Kampf was hurt.

I really like this Fraser Minten centre draft pick but he might be 3 or 4 years away from the NHL.......but has decent size and can skate.

Looks like Minten is going to opportunity to be the # 1 centre this year in Kamloops. Yep, there is path for him to the Leafs

The bottom six is already different now, so they are definitely fine for now. They could be great or they could be terrible, will need to wait and see. Colorado had a ton of strong forecheckers, Paul's forechecking was problematic for the Leafs, not TBs superstar forwards. So, the Leafs added forecheckers in Jarnkrok, Aube-Kubel, and Gaudette who also used to have a top 6 projection. So without seeing how they are it's silly just to say the Leafs need to add this random big player, or this offensive FA.

I can tell you with full certainty the caps want nothing to do with that trade. Sheary is worth at least a second round pick alone, and Holl is pretty much at 0 value due to his cap hit versus what he brings to a team. We don’t need another RHD, as well. Not against parting with AJF, but if you want a 50 point winger making 1.5M, you need to part with something of value. I’d be asking for a first round pick with how valuable cap space is.
