Fair value, but Canucks decline.

Severson to me is like a Myers 2.0, except that he's younger. They're most likely going to sign him in UFA after his contract is up

If it's in the off season NEXT YEAR, why is Vancouver trading a very good asset for a UFA expiring right then and there. When they can just hang up the phone, and then sign him as a UFA that same damn FA opening... For FREE.

If Severson is traded, it's either going to be before the season coming or during. Not after.

The only way that would make sense, is if Vancouver wanted 8 years on his contract. But even then, paying Garland for 1 extra year on a contract is how you get fired.

I like the idea of getting Girard in next summer.
With the Avs impending cap crunch and depth at D Girard could certainly be available at a reasonable cost.

I wonder if the Devils wouldn't be better off trying to swap those picks out for some prospects however.
From 2023 and 4 years onward the D corps would be set by Hamilton, Hughes, Marino, Nemec, Siegenthaler and now Girard.

That means that none of Mukhammadulin, Walsh, Bahl or Okhotiuk will be full time NHLers with the Devils, so would have to trade them sooner or later.
Better to try and involve one or two of them in this Girard trade while also giving the Avs some low cost options at 3rd pair, no?
I think Mukhammadulin could be swapped out for one of the picks, and one of the other guys could also be added here as the Devils wouldn't have any use for them.

Anyway, I projected this out long term for the Devils and adding Girard (and Garland) should work just fine provided that Palat is traded ahead of 25-26 and Marino the year after (with Casey to replace).

That trade is done before 2022 TDL I imagine.
OP probably just forgot to write that out.

COL isn’t doing that because a) Girard is worth more and b) they don’t have to clear space for MacKinnon even if he gets $13M the increase from his current contract is almost exclusively covered by EJ’s expiring deal (short 500k) but then made up for it by Compher’s expiring deal. And for those that want to use Toews as a trade basis let’s remember something’s NYI was in cap crunch and any contract extension was going to effect their XD plans.

Another option is Sandin offersheet. I think we are 1 young top 4 team controlled dman from being set on defense. Bahl and Okht could get there but their ceilings aren't that high. I don't see a plan for Mukhammadulin, Walsh, Bahl or Okhotiuk except depth defensemen

That OS would have to be at a future season then as there isn't any cap for Sandin, without any outgoings.
I wouldn't really mind that, I really like Sandin.
Would prefer to trade our D prospects before our picks however, as there are so many future NHL regulars within the organization that won't stick with the Devils over the next 3-4 years.

Byram and Newhook extensions?

They have $26M in cap space next year to sign those 3 and some bottom 6 guys and a 6/7 dman. How much cap space do you think they need? Not giving Girard away.

Cap Space: 26M
Mackinnon: 13M
Byram: 4.5M bridge
Newhook: 2.5M bridge
6 bottom 6 players (1 extra): 900k each
1 bottom pairing dman: 900k

That gives the Avalanche 300k in cap space with a bad bottom 6 and mid goaltending. Smart move to be to trade Girard, have Toews, Makar, Byram, Manson in top 4, upgrade bottom 6.

Maybe you can post an ACGM on what the Avalanche should do instead of constantly criticizing everyone else's ACGM when you haven't posted one in a year

No smart move isn’t to trade guys that make impacts, smart moves are to not over pay bottom 6 and 7/8th dmen. Love or hate TBL look at their bottom 6, that’s the roster formation that COL is morphing to, Compher is going to walk, Newhook hopefully takes over the 2C roll and can be bridged. And the hysteria that MacKinnon wants to be the highest paid player put out by the click bait king Dater. Generally speaking I don’t have roster construction issues but trade issues, and even more so the lazy how will they sign This guy and this guy comments.
