Way too much for Barzal. Not to mention it would put the jackets in cap hell

Voracek, not Gus, would need to be moved out since we won't have enough for Barzal's 10 mil QO next off season and need Voracek's cap hit off the books to make that happen.

I'm not saying anyone is 'untouchable' in a Barzal trade (assuming he signs an extension as part of it) but IMO Sillinger is the piece on the roster that would best fit a 2C role behind Barzal long-term. I'd sooner swap in one of our 2022 picks at defense + adjust picks accordingly than include Sillinger.

Wouldn't be in cap hell this year.

After this year, the cap would go up, they'd get the rest of Gus's deal off their books, could move Voracek (with or without retention) to free up another $4m, will be freeing up another half mil or so by swapping Korpi for Tarasov, and could buy Bean out. Plenty of space to operate there.

I'd also argue that solidifying the 1C spot long-term would be worth losing significant futures as he'll be in his prime when the new core players get into theirs.

Sillinger is untouchable. Not sure they trade him one for one for Barzal. Jarmo sees him as a 1C of the future. He’s six years younger than Barzal and still has two year left on his ELC which will help with the jackets cap situation

The isles are trading Barzal and his QO is 8.4 not 10.

That would make zero sense for the jackets. That is an extreme overpayment. Plus screws the capspace for the future. We need high end elc contracts like sillinger to compete. Barzel would be amazing but not at the cost of 5 first round picks.

I really hope they don’t bank on silly being a 1c, his skill set is better suited for a 2c role unless he can pot 35- 40 goals consistently. He doesn’t have the high end game breaking speed that a 1c needs. IMO I love him as a player and his potential but 1c is pushing it.

I agree he could be a high end 2C. I think the importance of a 1C for the jackets is overstated. With elite playmakers like gaudreau and voracek you just need a solid center to win draws, play D, and chip in some goals. Kent Johnson also fits the prototype of an elite playmaker and should be ready for top 6 minutes by the time voracek leaves

Why not? NY probably isn’t trading him lol.

In all seriousness I’ve seen way worse on here. I would say that you didn’t offer a good enough prospect and the two firsts that are going to NY will be mid to late firsts. For now id hold onto Barzal. You can probably build a good team around Barzal, Dobson and Sorokin.

laugh laugh Zero chance in hell, Lou would trade Matt Barzal within the division to Columbus. And good luck not being in cap hell in a few years.

no need to retain salary on Nyquist. Instead up the compensation pick to a 2nd. A 4th isn't worth Nyquist taking a roster spot away from Berggren or Veleno. But another 2nd. Sure.

I'd offer Roslovic, Mateychuk, Nyquist 50% retained, 2023 1st top 5 protected and a 2024 2nd. Barzal certainly has potential, but it's also been 5 years since his point per game season. I don't think he's worth the four 1sts, a 2nd and Roslovic like you're proposing.

Jarmo is going to continue building via draft. Barzal is good but the Jackets are not going to screw their cap up. Gaudreau signing, although very much needed, is a reminder that blossoming teams like Columbus need to be cap savvy and stick to developing youngsters and allowing the ELC years to help keep the cap low. Couple of years and the Jackets could be a very dangerous team to deal with.
