The jackets just had to trade bjorkstrand for a 3 and 4. why would they take 4.5m of hoffman for 2 years in exchange for a 3rd?

CBJ can't afford Hoffman. Not sure if Minnesota can afford Dvorak over the next couple of seasons, even if they can squeeze him in this year, so that can be an issue. Also, the Sharks are probably a rebuilding team, so there's no way they are going to give up their first.

in a cap strapped NHL environment any player above 4 mil in AAV that's average or a decent player will not get almost any return unless you take cap back or retain 50%

He's not top 6 in Columbus. He might not even be top 9.

MTL will have to pay to get rid of Hoffman, and Dvorak isn’t returning a first. Dadonov half retained isn’t getting a first either. Anderson is nowhere close to getting a first, let alone adding a top prospect. And SJ won’t be giving up their first in an extremely deep draft just to dump Vlasic. They will just buy him out instead.

Boston does not give up either of those pieces straight up.

Boston is over the cap already and has cap problems next year so logistically they could not anyway. But they are not interested in massively overpaying for a bad contract. Even if it was a great contract, still massive overpay.

Lesser picks or prospects. Hoffman is a cap dump most likely.

He’s a third liner

And Columbus doesn’t need him, they already have Gaudreau and Vorechek

He’s not top 6 outside of MTL and maybe 1-2 teams. Might be top 9 on some non playoff teams
