An average backup goalie doesn’t return a 1st round pick

So you trade a 1st for one worse than Thompson.

Dude, there is no universe where Jake Allen gets a 1st round pick, no matter how desperate a team is for a goalie.

Lol so true

As a Habs fan, I would be f******g delighted with that trade!

A huge yes! And then hope VGK misses the playoffs!

honestly a first in a deal for Allen isn't that crazy if it's lottery protected. Hughes has little desire to move Allen unless it's an offer he can't refuse, and on top of Vegas's desperation it could happen. Vegas still wants to be contenders and are going to need at least a somewhat solidified goalie to get them to the playoffs.

It’s been 6 years since a goalie was traded for a 1st round pick (unless I missed one but don’t think I did), and that was Frederick Andersen, a 26 year old 1A/1B at the time who had put up great numbers 3 seasons in a row. Before that it was Martin Jones, a 25 year old highly regarded backup who didn’t really work out for the Sharks, and Ryan Miller, a proven Vezina winning/all star goalie.

So no, 32 year old average backup Jake Allen will not return a 1st round pick
