Description

Logic in the VGK trade. After the performance from Quapp at the WJC's, they may view him as a future shiny toy. Raanta because goaltending. Marchessault because they need cap space, they're not moving Eichel or Stone. It could be Smith, but he just signed an extension. Stephenson doesn't make enough. WK's value just isn't there for 6 million a year, so it made Marchessault the only viable option here imo. You could remove the prospects and picks and have Raanta for Patrick + but I don't know how I feel about that.

I’m all for fleecing Vegas again, but given Quapp’s performance against the US with the team in front of him, I’m a little hesitant to trade Quapp now. I would prefer to keep Quapp and let him and Hamrla duke it out in Chicago for the backup role behind Koochie. As for acquiring Marchy, I think Vegas would want some thing more valuable, but they are kind of desperate at the moment. They can’t exactly afford to lose Marchy at the moment after giving up Patches for nothing. Plus, this would put the Canes over the cap when Patches comes back.

I really like March and how’d he’d fit on our team but after seeing goalie injuries (both with us last year and now what Vegas is scrambling to figure out) I almost want to make sure we have 3 guys that are capable NHL starters. Especially with Freddy injury history the last few seasons.

I wouldn’t be mad if we did this but I would be worried all season if Freddy got hurt again.

All true except the cap part, I tried it out. With this setup, the Canes could carry a 21 man roster with Pacioretty on it. It is possible.
