I have a feeling leafs fans will be mad that matthews and marner are scratches despite every forward here being a hall of famer and have a full career where as both Matthew’s and marner are in the 7th or 8th years of their careers.

Matthews career right now projects to be better than a lot of these leafs’. Already has more individual awards than any of these guys lol. “Oh but he hasn’t played a full career or won anything” this is based on how they performed in Toronto. Gilmour played 6 seasons with the leafs so why is he on here and not Matthews?

Doug Gilmour carried the team within one fluke goal of a Stanley Cup final for the first time since 1967. If someone is going to make an all time team of an original six franchise they need to be in the Hall of Fame

I absolutely think gilmour should be here, as well as Matthews because of his accomplishments so far. I’m saying if gilmour is here Matthews should be as well. Matthews will be in the hall of fame

Because he was a leaf. When you think of Doug gilmour, you envision him in a leafs jersey. Gilmour was much more iconic for the leafs than Matthew’s has been. Not to mention he is in the HOF. At the moment, Matthew’s doesn’t crack the top 12. Not a slight or attack on matthews but rather just proof he hasn’t played long enough to warrant being in the top 12 for such a storied franchise. Look at Carey price for example. He is easily the best goalie of his generation. 7 years into his NHL career, he had cemented himself as the best goalie in the world. 7 years into his career would he be on the habs all time team? No. There is Roy and plante. He didn’t have enough time to establish himself as being better for the habs than those two. Matthew’s is similar where he is one of the best in the game but he hasn’t had enough time to establish himself in that top 12. The only 2 players I could see being in an all time team who are similar in age to Matthew’s is mcdavid and makar. Mcdavid because he is the best player of this generation and has had a single season under a 100 point pace. The oilers are also not an original 6 team. As for makar he is also not playing for an original 6 franchise. Give Matthew’s another season or two and he probably makes this team but as of now, he hasn’t played long enough to warrant being over a hall of famer despite he is on a hall of fame pace.

Matthews needs to get out of round 1 before he can be in the same sentence as Gilmour. I’m interested in you going after Gilmore when Sundin would be the easier target? He’s as good a regular season player as anyone much like Matthews and Marner. I only have him in here because the Leafs last were a real cup contender under his leadership. If Matthews can get us out of round one and he looks like a Conn Smythe Calibre player then I’d be willing to put him in Sundin’s spot

And even McDavid would be on a 3rd line because you can’t say he’s better than Messier yet

Did I once say I didn’t think gilmour should be there? I just said he should be along with Matthews as they have similar accomplishments. Matthews is the better player than gilmour was, played as many seasons, won more individual awards etc. I understand your argument of “he hasn’t won anything” so yes, I think gilmour is more of a revered leaf than Matthews right now, that doesn’t mean I don’t think Matthews should be here over guys like dick duff, or Jackson busher

And why are those player unworthy when they’re already Hall of Famers? Matthews hasn’t earned it yet. It’s as simple as that.

so the criteria for this list you have to be retired, the best actual hockey player for thus franchise is not on it

at the end of the day whether you want to admit it or not, round wins dont matter unless you win the cup, theres a reason why when you search a player there isnt a category for round wins, and thats the case for anyone on this team that played after 67 without winning a cup, and matthews has more awards and pure ability wise was a better hockey player

accolades and ability are 2 different things, 6 years is irrelavant, from a legacy stand point sure but was dave keon ever the 2nd best player in the NHL? Love Mats, my favourite player growing up, but what did he really do? was never a top 3 player in the league while he was playing, Auston IS. there was also nobody as good as mcdavid or crosby while mats was in the league. round wins dont matter unless you win the cup, before the leafs went on this not winning a playoff round streak, you never heard anybody talking about playoff rounds as serious. he has the rookie record for points and goals, so he has ahd the best rookie season in the history of this historic franchise, hes also the best goal scorer in this history of the franchise, hes one of 2 leafs ever to win the MVP. if he doesnt win a cup then i agree it might be hard to put him the best, but ability wise, there has been nobody better

Dave Keon was the third person ever to win a Conn Smythe. He played against Jean Beliveau, Stan Mikita, Alex Delvecchio, Henri Richard, and Phil Esposito who are all Hall of Fame centres. He managed to win a Conn Smythe trophy while going up against Jean Beliveau in the finals. Regular season success can never mean more than postseason success.
