Description

I tried not to go overboard with the return on Varlamov, as I've seen others do. Even with 30% retention, I don't see one year of him being worth a first-round draft pick. But it's the Golden Knights, so you never know -- Pacioretty for Future Considerations was awful enough, so who could have been prepared for their adding in Dylan Coghlan, whom you would have thought Las Vegas would cling to?

The Islanders get a backup to replace Varlamov instantly (overcoming the objection that Lou Lamoriello might be reluctant to trade Varlamov at this late stage) and sufficient cap space to sign Nazem Kadri, Noah Dobson, Alex Romanov and Kieffer Bellows.

Yeah without retention I get this. But personally I think they should go into the year with the current group and give them 20-40 games to show what they can do with Lambert and Romanov.

makes reasonable sense for both teams...can argue about the amount of retention etc but the basic move makes sense.

$1.175 million is enough to re-sign Bellows at $1 million and give Dobson and Romanov two-year bridge deals for $5.25 million and $2.75 million, respectively, and still have half a million left over. That's the whole point.

Isn’t Brannstrom Swedish? Also I just really like watching Raty. I think there’s a lot of talent there and even more room to grow. Ironically he reminds me a little bit of Kadri. He’s such a pest.

The retention still allows for signing Kadri ($7 million), Dobson ($5.25 million), Romanov ($2.75 million) and Bellows ($1 million). And it's $1.2 million in actual cash.

I left enough to sign either Paul Stastny or Phil Kessel for $2 million. I didn't want to pick one or the other and then get a dozen comments bickering over THAT side issue.

I feel NYI will be trying to compete and will need Varlomov

My prediction for VGK is they will go after a SJS goalie. As rn SJS have Reimer, Kahkonen, and Hill

Sell high on Reimer and go with the younger duo

From there VGK uses the remaining space and goes to sign 2 more guys as they got like what 12.4mill to work with now jesus
