Description
The future considerations carolina traded to vegas turns out to be an optional trade vegas could make if patches were to be injured long term and so was a vegas player. Carolina would be able to get marchessault and carolina would have to give up a player at the position vegas had a long term injury. Now lehner is injured, the future considerations come into play.

I had this exact trade earlier but decided to not post it

I’m not sure if Koch is ready for a full time NHL duty

Make it a 3 team trade with half retention on Marchy and the Canes will definitely do that. Of course, Gardiner would have to go to bring Patches back, and Bear might have to go too.

From what we have seen so far, I would say he is ready for a backup role. Either way, an extra year in the AHL is probably the best for his development.

Is Carolina taking Lehner too? If not this makes zero sense before taking into account they aren't moving Marchessault

Why would the canes take on lehner? He’s on the LTIR for vegas, not counting against cap. Raanta is the goalie for the year for vegas here because he is clearly better than all of the healthy goalies in vegas’ system. I don’t think you are looking at how well he played in a starting roll in the playoffs. Anyways this move makes sense for vegas as they are getting rid of $10m total dollars for $2m. The cap is a problem for vegas and given the knights recent moves, this is better return than anything else they have done in terms of trades. Vegas gets cap relief, a starting goalie in a year where theirs just went down, and a prospect and pick. This makes so much sense for vegas and saves them $3m this year and $5m next year.

Need march retention from a third team, dump Gard somewhere at some point and also think we need 3 NHL capable goalies.

Vegas is LTIR this year so saving 3M this year is pointless. They aren't saving 5M next year because they need to replace Marchessault.

Rantaa is good but you don't over pay for a goalie you can't keep next year, hence why I asked if Carolina is taking Lehner too.

Why would Vegas trade their best goal scorer for a starter? Especially after moving Patches. Vegas still wants to be a contender and this doesn't help them.

Idk man. Cant contend when you don’t have a starting goalie. A forward like March is much easier to replace than a starting goalie. I would rather have March but if I’m vegas I would give him up to get a starting goalie.

Cassidy's systems are designed to make it easier on goalies. They have a good D core. With Lehner LTIR for the season they can add to their forward core. I know I am looking at it with optimism but Vegas' forward core is built to be defense first (minus Eichel).

30 goals isn't that easy to replace or else the Canes wouldn't be as desperate as they are for a goal scorer.

Are the canes desperate though? If they were desperate wouldn’t they have paid to get patches? If they were desperate would they have let every UFA walk? This is more so just capitalizing on the knights woes. The knights had 3 players on pace for 30 goals last season and one is on Carolina. The knights had 6 players on pace for over 20 goals and 4 are still on the team. Carolina had 6 players on pace for over 20 goals. 2 are gone but the canes added patches who was on pace for 40 but is now injured and kase who was on pace for 20. Not to mention the canes can expect big years from necas and KK. This offensive core looks better even with the patches injury. The canes imo have 4 or 5 players who could score 30. Aho and svech who did it last year. Jarvis who was on pace for 20 as a rookie playing 4th line minutes. Necas had a down year last year that had him struggling with the effects of Covid and being in RBAs doghouse. He still put up 40 points When he was playing with competent players he was great. Turbo was on a similar G/60 pace as Jarvis and turbo is a pass first player. KK scored every single one of his goals at even strength. With the opening of the PP 2C with the trocheck departure, I expect at least 20 goals. Of the players projected to be in the canes top 6 now that patches is injured, the oldest is turbo who will be 28 and the rest will be 25 or younger. Jarvis will be 20, KK Aand svech will be 22, necas will be 23, and aho will be 25. If that doesn’t scream this team is still growing I don’t know what does. So the point I am trying to make, marchessault is a luxury to the canes, not a necessity.

And you just proved why Vegas wouldn't make that move. They already moved two of their 6 so you propose they move a third? Players have more value to different teams depending on the situation and Marchessault is among the players Vegas refuses to move. They could have moved him and gotten a return but chose to dump Patches.
