Varly only makes sense because he is on his last year. This won't work with 3 years and a NMC.

Varly has a 16 team NTC. Could be equally problematic. Ullmark wants to be a 1 and played for Cassidy. I’d say there is a good chance he waives for Vegas. His NMC comes off next year. They could trade him in the offseason and recoup assets.

The 3 years is the issue. Lehner is back next year with 3 years and also paid 5M. Thompson is the backup/starter of the future signed for 3 years. So Ullmark won't work

They can trade him in the offseason and recoup assets. His NMC is gone then. Or trade Lehner in the offseason. Beats having Varly one and done and get nothing for him.

To be fair, VGK doesn’t tend to look into the future as they make moves. A very much only now matters approach.

You will notice teams that are forced to move a player for cap reasons tend to get screwed. You aren't recouping anything from that situation especially a 16 team M-NTC

Oh they look ahead. Getting rid of Allan Walsh was the plan. They got burned for it but that was the plan.

The majority of their existence and many of the deals they’ve made over the last 2 years specifically show a disregard for long term planning or the future.

Next offseason is a different market and goaltender market is a different market altogether anyway. Vegas has been playing for the now and fix it later since year 2. With both Lehner and Ullmark on board and both having limited trade protection they move the one they can for the best return they can get. Any return is better than no return of a rental. Just do it before free agency.

I will have to disagree with you. Eichel was onwership forcing the front office to change plans but other than that I don't see how they didn't think long term. The majority of their bigger players have been locked up since year 2. They moved on from an older goalie for a younger one (injuries crewed that up).

Agree to disagree. I respect the win now strategy and the chaos that ensues but I don’t think I’d be happy as a fan of the team.

Lehner is a full NTC and Ullmark is half the league but yes limited trade protection. Next offseason is looking the same as this one expect this one had a lot of long term contracts signed shrinking the cap significantly. Now who is moving the goal posts on their argument?

Lehner has 5 team no trade list next year. 8 this year. Try again.

Never said I was happy with the outcome but as someone that has followed all of their moves I see their long term plans. Ownership was drooling over Eichel for over a year and "needed" a 1C forcing them to change the plan. They were set up to run with Krebs and Tuch last year

i don't think 3 years is the issue lol if anything it's a safety net, hip injuries tend to be goalie killers so who is to say lehner even returns to his previous form once he is back another thing lehner has always been a tandem goalie he isn't capable of playing 60+ . on the isles he tandemed with greiss in chicago crawford and in vegas fleury. now broissoit is a decent back up but to rely on him for 30-40 games is not safe. atleast once lehner returns if he is shaky to start you have a consistent 1B goalie who can take the larger load to start the year and lehner can take the larger load to end the year and then to PO's you can just ride the hot goalie, the only reason Boston signed him was to be a tandem goalie for 2 seasons until swayman can play 60 games a season i don't think they felt confident throwing a 22yr old goalie into the wolves his 1st nhl season

Spot on.

Boston almost have to move Ully next year. If they could do it now and get Hague. Go for it. But it’s not going to happen. Vegas will just go with Thompson/Brossoit/Hutch and add at the deadline if they need to upgrade.
