Gibson to VGK Cap Dump and TDL Moves

Created by: Jded
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 11, 2022
Published: Aug. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Other Moves:
- re-sign Stolarz to a 2 year extension. Should be cheap right now and can help ease Dostal’s transition to NHL
- Sign our promising college prospects that we could lose if we don’t ink them (Lacombe, Moore, Thrun). Offer up some NHL roles at the end of this season to help entice them after moving Shatty/JK

Understandably questionable if NYI would do this. There are a number of teams that really need to move salary though, so I think this will be more expensive to do than people think with how few teams can afford to take on salary. If not this, then insert another dump (Zucker, Lucic, etc)

Klingberg would need to come with an extension if that’s the price, he’s also older than Lindholm

Gibson will probably require retention, not just because of his play, but so Vegas can add him under their cap easily.

Overall though, the moves seem reasonable and plausible, good work.

I've gone over why I don't want to trade Gibson in other threads with you, so I will focus on the return I would want to see.

    Nicolas Hague
    Nicolas Roy
    Laurant Broissoit
    Brisson or Dorofeyev
    2023 1st, no lottery protection.

I agree that’s possible. Differences were Lindholm also got us Vaak, didn’t actually have a contract in place (just Boston’s willingness to negotiate one). Figured the lack of prospect evened it out at least somewhat but it’s totally possible it’d be a bit less

Thanks! I figured with Lehner already at $5M and going to LTIR, the difference in price is only $1.4M and by taking Brossoit (who was very ‘meh’ last year) at $2.3M they’re actually saving cap. I don’t picture ANA retaining with so much term left. They’d rather just take a bit less if they had to, but if the return was a lot less it’s also just not worth doing

Not at all a disappointing return. I’d be stoked if we got that, especially with Brisson. Seems a bit rich for VGK to give, especially without some players in return to fill those gaps though. I feel like we definitely have some expendable depth to offer up though

We are absolutely stupid if we trade Brisson+KK+1st for anyone at this point. We saw how quickly it went south last year with injuries. This team lacks prospects already, shipping out what would be the top 3 for a goalie, when we ALL know that we’re gonna struggle to score this year is fire into the sun worthy

Sure, we can toss a couple of warm bodies back over the fence, Josh Mahura and Derek Grant to get rid of Eakins favorite toy.

But the only way I send Vegas Gibson is to guarantee that Vegas is not competitive in a few years time when our window opens, every piece of young value they have gets extracted as well as their 2023 1st.

Yeah, but need to consider that Gibson's numbers have been bad for 3-years, and they are giving up quality for him. The cap they save on Brossoit might also be needed to get another back up if Thompson isn't ready.
