Barkov could very much win the Hart this season

Created by: Iggy1919
Team: 2022-23 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2022
Published: Aug. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Call me crazy, but I truly believe he'll at least be in the Hart race. Because...

- Had 88 points in 67 games last season. That's 110 point pace if he played the entire year, which would've put him 4th in the league in points behind McJesus, Huby, and Johnny Hockey
- Tkachuk. Obviously. The guy just had an 100+ point season. Add Reinhart/Verhaeghe to that and that's one of the best lines in the league
- Losing Huby seems like a big blow to Barkov's production, but it really isn't. Besides the power play, they barely played together since they were on different lines. And pp production likely won't go down with Tkachuk

Again, I might sound crazy by saying all of this but he has a real shot imo

Btw ignore them being over the cap, wasn't a goal of mine to fix this, just trying to share something on my mind lmao

Finally, someone says it. I've been talking about it all summer with my hockey friends; if he was healthy, Barkov would've been in Hart talks this past season. In his last 82 games (which is taken from the two seasons which he played with Verhaeghe + whoever they could find to play RW, not Huberdeau), he scored 50 goals and 105 points while also playing Selke level defense. That's just crazy. He's the next Bergeron, just with more offense and a little less defense.

Although, one minor note, your math is a little off. As much as I'd like him to have been on pace for 120 points, he played 67 games, not 60. So his pace was actually around 110, not 120. Still, absolutely bonkers that nobody talked about it. The man's primary linemates this past season were Carter Verhaeghe and Anthony Duclair/Maxim Mamin. He only played with Huberdeau when the team was trailing badly, which happened more than you would expect but still not enough to say that Huby carried him (especially since his production didn't just skyrocket those few times they did play together).

I agree. If he can stay healthy, he'll easily be in Hart talks. Especially if he has good chemistry with Tkachuk, which I'm really banking on.

Barkov one of my fav players but you can also argue if Matthews played all 82 he would have a shot at the art ross as well as the rocket and hart

To be fair, that pace is going off of what he did, not what he could have done. If he went on a crazy scoring streak, he could've hit 120.
Kinda weird to think that Aleksander Barkov could've gotten close to scoring 60 goals with a little bit of luck. Imagine if he'd played a whole 82 games with Huberdeau as his primary linemate? Wouldn't have helped the team's depth, but he definitely would've scored 50+.

Of course, but that's not the point of this post. He's just talking about Barkov. Besides, Matthews won the Hart and Rocket anyway.

110 points would have been tied for 4th in the league, not 2nd. However measuring Barkov if he played 82 games when other people didn't as well isn't very honest. When we look at points/game played, Barkov was tied for 10th in the league (minimum 40 games played).

i know but im saying, if youre gonna use the "if barkov was healthy for 82" you have to do the same for other players which changes this

Wait what??! I don't see a ton of Panthers games so forgive my ignorance here but Huberdeau and Barkov weren't on the same line?!!!

Nope, lol. It always surprises people. They used to, but Quenneville split them up to help with our depth. It worked pretty damn well, too.

Fair. Although, tbf, I think OP was just using his 82 game pace to give a Hart case for this upcoming season.

I'd even say Barkov should be one of the front runners for the Hart. 40+ goals, 100+ points, and a Selke-worthy defense should make a guy the most valuable player in the league.

It's sad that the voters most likely just vote for the Art Ross or Rocket Richard winners. Like they always do
