Leafs get cap compliant

Created by: benabary
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2022
Published: Aug. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Look Toronto fans, no one is giving you an asset for Kerfoot. You'll have to pay up for someone to take him, just like with Max Pacioretty going to Carolina. And Pacioretty is much more valuable.
To get back under the cap I traded tex, but with being only 300k over the cap it could be another move.

I just keep seeing the Leafs moving Kerfoot to the jackets and the jackets paying absurd prices on this site.

I’d rather keep Texier as we wouldn’t get that return, a 2nd is probably a bit high to take Kerfoot too and I’d rather not have the rental who puts us over the cap again.

Just because you prefaced something with "Look Toronto fans..." doesn't mean you're saying something even remotely true. Paying a 2nd to get someone to take Kerfoot is nuts, since when do perfectly fine middle-six players on fairly priced contracts have substantial negative value?

Lol. Comparing Kerfoot to the Patches situation is laughable. Patches was payed twice as much and is injured for half the season. Someone will pay, even if it’s like a 4th, for Kerfoot. Not a chance Toronto does this.

Need a higher pick coming back to us to take on Kerfoot. Especially if we're obliged to lose Texier as a result.

Detroit says no thanks. We don't need to add roster players unless they're studs. We're more than full on depth.

Now I agree the Leafs might be forced to move Kerfoot. But adding a 2nd round sweetener is absurd. Leafs might not even get nothing back for him, but Kerfoot is good value at 3.5m and is owed just 750 thousand in actual $$$ right now.

not to mention, columbus is over the cap so they'd need to dump a 2nd by the OP's logic to move texier

I'd do this trade and move either Erne or Smith to make room for him. Alex is comparable to Berggren/Zadina/Söderblom in talent and is way better than Fabbri is defensively while scoring the same.

Tex is better than Kerfoot. So just keep tex.
Our centers will continue to develop, probably more quickly now that we have another playmaking winger (like Panarin) in gaudreau. He will have very good assist numbers just like Voracek did. That is why I like having Gaudreau and Voracek on different lines. Keep Laine with Voracek and place either Kent Johnson or Tex on the other wing with Gaudreau.

That's an idiotic comment. Tex is an RFA, cap friendly and a very skilled player. Kerfoot is a dud, cost 3.5 against the cap and will be lucky to make league minimum on his next contract.

Oh I know, I'm just sick of seeing Toronto fans dump Kerfoot off to us with the CBJ sending back a massive return.

Nope, over the cap. Need to trade him, that's the logic being used here so it applies universally.
And lol at kerfoot being a dude, the flat out brain dead 'cuz he's a leaf' nonsense some people get up to.
Imagine thinking a 50 point guy (without power play time)who can play wing or c,and kill penalties is a dud and will get league min.
    Just comical nonsense.
Texier has a career high of 20 points and somehow kerfoot is the dud. Good one dude, you sure know how to do that idiotic comment thing you mentioned
